Advocates in Orlando, Denver and Atlanta Visit FedEx Stores, Call on Company to Stop Subsidizing NRA

During the height of the holiday shopping season, on Wednesday ten major organizations representing volunteers, gun violence prevention advocates, moms and LGBTQ people delivered public letters to FedEx in Atlanta, Denver and Orlando calling on the company to stop offering massive discounts to members of the National Rifle Association. The business arrangement helps subsidize the NRA’s dangerous agenda.

The actions were coordinated by “Guns Down America,” a bolder, broader movement calling for dramatically fewer guns in America. View a copy of the letter HERE, which Guns Down sent privately to FedEx leadership two weeks ago.

According to the letter:

“FedEx is an iconic American brand that has revolutionized the shipping industry and brought the whole country –and the world — closer together. In your promotional materials, stores, and annual reports you make clear that investing in communities and empowering entrepreneurial change is one of your core values. FedEx is a company that clearly believes in helping create employment pathways and opportunities for underserved communities –empowering those who need help themost. Your employees and customers share these values.

This is why we were disappointed to discover that FedEx is a participant in the National Rifle Association’s Business Alliance, offering discounts of up to 26 percent to NRA members. The NRA continues to oppose sensible gun safety reforms like comprehensive background checks that will help stop the spread of guns and gun violence in our citiesand on our streets — the very communities your company and employees are committed to serving.

Thirty-three thousand Americans die from guns every single year and gun violence inflicts a particularly devastating blow to communities of color, where it is the leading cause of death for African American boys and men between the ages of 15 and 34. Gun homicides for African Americans are 21 times greater than for white boys and men of the same age.

To fulfill our joined goal of empowering our communities, we must tackle the gun violence problem.

We are formally requesting that FedEx publicly pull out of the National Rifle Association’s Business Alliance, an arrangement that financially benefits the NRA and helps fund its support for a system that is shattering our communities.”

Supporters can sign the petition asking for FedEx to end its NRA Business Alliance here:

  1. That is AWESOME! Four shoppers show up during the busiest 4 days of the entire year to request Fed-Ex stop offering discounts. Brilliant.

Perhaps they can get CVS to abandon their discount prescription card because heroin is naughty.

As gun nuts we have to watch out for these well organized opposition groups and their diabolical desire to restrict our discounts at Mailboxes etc. It's clear they are obviously well funded; if you look closely you can see that's permanent ink and a glaringly apparent presentation quality posterboard.

Actually I appreciate their efforts. I would have never have known I got such a discount from Fed-Ex had they not brought it to my attention. Upon visiting the ww.Gunsdownamerica.org website I found a whole slew of benefits I did not know I had as an NRA member. They were kind enough to include links, so thank you.
