  1. Trump and his team are almost surely compromised by Russian intelligence via Trump and Manafort and Stone business dealings in Russia.

The counterintelligence investigation centers at least in part on the business dealings that some of the president-elect’s past and present advisers have had with Russia. Mr. Manafort has done business in Ukraine and Russia. Some of his contacts there were under surveillance by the National Security Agency for suspected links to Russia’s Federal Security Service, one of the officials said.

Mr. Manafort is among at least three Trump campaign advisers whose possible links to Russia are under scrutiny. Two others are Carter Page, a businessman and former foreign policy adviser to the campaign, and Roger Stone, a longtime Republican operative.

This may be the most chilling part of the entire report — the reasons why they're leaking it now:

Representatives of the agencies involved declined to comment. Of the half-dozen current and former officials who confirmed the existence of the investigations, some said they were providing information because they feared the new administration would obstruct their efforts. All spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the cases.

Every dollar Trump makes from this day on should be scrutinized by law enforcement. Colorado's Democratic elected officials representing us in DC, even though they might place dollars over principle as The Donald does, shouldn't let all the little shiny objects tweeted out, all the yearning for that Good, Ol' Fashioned Bipartisanship, all the admonitions from AC and the like to "move on" and "get over it" or all the screaming about "Benghazi" and "emails" dissuade them from forcing Republicans to account for their president's truly criminal behavior.

(You see why AC is going to harp on Hillary until David Koch or Vlad tells him to stop?)

And, though we will never stoop to the level of cynicism and hypocrisy displayed by Republicans every single day, we must also keep in mind what they would do if a Dem was doing what Trump is.

      1. Ironically, as was brought up on CNN, Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump shared the role of outsider candidates.  Both Barack Obama, in 2009, and Trump, in 2016, were seen as the candidates of change.

Without a doubt, the DNC rigged the nominating system against Senator Sanders.  Hillary Clinton certainly was the candidate of the status quo and was unfairly portrayed as a third term of Barack Obama, much as John McCain was unfairly portrayed as a third term of George W. Bush.

People wanted a change in 2009 and 2016 and neither Senator McCain or Secretary Clinton, respectively, offered that.  It was rather stunning to hear former president Obama state that he could have beaten President Trump for a third term.  Who did he think people wanted a change from?!

  2. Media Matters gives a little history check we can use when Republicans tell us we must respect Trump and the Office of the President, we should defer to his prerogatives because he "won", we can ignore all the legal and moral failings and abuses of the Constitution and the 8 years full of Racism, Cynicism, disrespect, lies, Anti-Democratic and Anti-democratic abuses of the American people:

On January 16, 2009, Rush Limbaugh — one of the most powerful voices in Republican politics — told his millions of listeners that his “hope for the Obama presidency” was

    I hope he fails.”

In an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity the day after Obama was sworn in, Limbaugh doubled down, saying: "We are being told that we have to hope he succeeds, that we have to bend over, grab the ankles, bend over forward, backward, whichever, because his father was black, because this is the first black president."

Over the next few months, Limbaugh would continue to state that he wanted Obama to fail. When other prominent Republicans offered criticism of the radio host, he would blast them on his show; his audience would flood their offices with calls until they were forced to apologize. In a sign of things to come, even the chairman of the Republican National Committee had to grovel before the man with the microphone.

That same month, Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes sat down with another right-wing radio host, Glenn Beck.

Fox executives later acknowledged that the network took “a hard right turn” after the election and become “the voice of opposition” to Obama.

As a presidential candidate, Obama had frequently been subject to a hefty dose of conservative media vitriol. Given that Obama was the first black major party nominee and had the middle name “Hussein,” a lot of that vitriol was racist or aimed at falsely suggesting he was a Muslim. The fearmongering took off as the election approached, with conservatives baselessly warning that he would be a dictator.

But in the first 100 days of his administration, following the lead of Limbaugh, Ailes, and Beck, the floodgates opened.

As the Obama administration took control of the reins of government and began trying to halt the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, the right-wing media reviews rolled in.

The new president was a Marxist. And a fascist. And a Nazi. And a Maoist. And a Bolshevik. And a Trotskyite.

“Is this where we’re headed?” asked Beck over a montage of photos of Hitler, Stalin, and Lenin.

Obama’s aim was “destroying our economic system as we currently know it." His financial rescue plan was “Josef Stalin without the bloodshed.” It was also socialism. So was his economic recovery plan (unless that was really communism. Or fascism. It was definitely slavery). The auto industry rescue made him a mob boss. So did his labor proposal. His cabinet secretaries were Soviet commissars.

And once again, whatever lies Republicans could muster and repeat with infinite shamelessness, it is Republicans who have been turned by ex-KGB Putic and have embraced our Russian enemies who continue to threaten world peace and democracies near and far.

DO NOT LET THEM LIVE DOWN THIS DESPICABLE BEHAVIOR THAT HARMED OUR DEMOCRACY SO GRAVELY THAT WE ENDED UP WITH PRESIDENT DONALD J TRUMP.

      1. Good point, Voyageur.  An imperial tweet, however, isn't the same as using an imperial pen and phone to issue executive orders to circumvent the legislative process.

        1. What legislative process? There hasn't been one for the past 8 yrs. Or do you really not understand "civics"? In order for there to be a legislative process, the legislature has to actually DO something…..besides obstruct the president.

  3. So much for Trump representing the "little guy".  Wanna buy your first home, need an FHA loan?  Ya gotta pay the Piper first!

With one of his first orders, President Donald Trump made it more expensive for working- and middle-class Americans to buy their first homes. The move will increase costs for 750,000 to 850,000 Americans in the next year alone, according to the National Association of Realtors.

    1. Actually, NPR reported, this afternoon, that it was outgoing HUD secretary Julian Castro who made this move, not President Donald Trump.  This is why I find Huffington Post stories to be questionable.  Ben Carson isn't confirmed as HUD secretary and I have not seen any other news source reporting President Trump signing any such executive order today.

That being said, it's interesting that the Obama administration saw fit to keep that rate as high as they have for eight years… until the last few days of that presidency.  Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised to see the rate reduced, once the new HUD secretary… whoever it may be… is confirmed.  I would be suspicious of any executive order done by any outgoing administration in its last few days, or weeks, in office.

        No, that's a lie.

Castro announced the decrease in rates. The Trump White House, after his inauguration, which makes him the guy in charge, as reported at The Hill, reversed that decrease.

      2. As pseudo says above…your post is a blatent lie. Anyone who heard the story on NPR knows it. Trump forced the change, Castro simply announced that a benefit Americans were going to receive had been cancelled by the incoming administation.

Are you going to admit you are wrong on this?

  4. At this point, I'm starting to feel like my refusal to diarize is becoming ridiculous, but here's some news that may particularly startle some polsters.

Jones Day In The (White) House: The Biglaw Firm Fills Top Jobs In The Trump Administration

Why do I give a crap about what some tabloidy legal industry journal wants to snark at, says you?  Well, you might be interested by one Jones Day lawyer in particular and his assignment.

    7. John Gore: Deputy Assistant AG for Civil Rights

Who's John Gore?  Well, he's probably a capable attorney. In fact, you may be familiar with one of his cases.  He represented some of the defendants in Carcaño v. McCrory, a case out of North Carolina, that involved the potty and who could use it.

Others may be more taken with some of his work in redistricting in New York and South Carolina.

  5. My favorite comment of the day came from someone on CNN.  (I'm sorry I didn't catch the name of the commentator who said it.)

When President Barack Obama and President-elect Donald Trump left the White House, in the Beast together, headed for the U.S. Capitol for the inauguration, he said, "There goes the two men who kept Hillary Clinton from becoming president."

I'd give them both the Medal of Freedom for that achievement!

  6. Kudos to Secretary Hillary Clinton, Senator Chuck Schumer, and Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi for showing up to the inauguration today.  They all showed real class and Senator Schumer and Congresswoman Pelosi were very gracious in their remarks at the inauguration luncheon in the Capitol.

There was nothing noble about the 60 House Democrats who chose to boycott the event and felt they had to announce it.  They really came across as pouters and have proved just how irrelevant they can be in a congressional chamber that doesn't have a filibuster rule.  Frankly, they were not missed at all.  According to CNN, none of the Senate Democrats boycotted the inauguration.  Good for them!

One last thought… I am truly amazed at how big Barron Trump is!  He isn't just tall for a 10 year old; he is also pretty husky for that age.  He could easily be mistaken for a 14 year old.

I think it is easy for people to forget that — because of Barron's size — he still only has the mind and emotions of a 10 year old.  He may have looked bored at times, but today's activities had to be pretty overwhelming for someone that age.  As Malia and Sasha Obama can tell him, it is an extraordinary experience to live in the White House as a kid.  I wish him well and hope the media and public cut him some slack.  God knows none of us were perfect angels during the time we were 10-14 years old!

  7. The guy that slammed Obama for executive actions just signed two on his first day:

1)directing all agencies to 'minimize the burden" of Obamacare. Read: stop enforcing individual mandate and penalties.

2)Raising payments for Federally backed mortgages by cutting the temporary fee rate decrease. It doesn't amount to much ~$29 on a $200K mortage, but this is the first thing Trump signs?

    3) The Trump DOJ motioned for delaying the hearing on the Justice Department vs. Texas' voter ID law. Apparently, he'd rather wait until racist Jeff Sessions is AG. Obama's DoJ found this to be a law deliberately designed to keep Latinos and Blacks (also poor people, elders, and women who had changed their names)  from voting in Texas.

Trump did not keep  the other 34 promises he made for Day One: he did not declare China a currency manipulator, revoke the TPP or NAFTA. He did not propose term limits for Congress. He did not propose legislation to limit foreign lobbying influencing elections (well, that one might have been awkward).  He also did not pursue a lifetime ban on White House lobbyists for foreign governments. (Again, awkward).

And he is in flagrant violation of the Constitutional emoluments clause, and his campaign staff certainly colluded with the Russians to help get him elected.

Keep pressure on your Congresspeople, and on the media to report this.
