Teabaggers Foiled By Own Lack of Planning

Permit? What permit? As MSNBC reports:

In Washington, D.C., protesters had planned to dump a million tea bags in Lafayette Square and even promised to put the bags on the tarps and clean up afterward. But their plans were thwarted after National Park Service officials said protesters didn’t have the proper permit to dump the bags, NBC affiliate WRC TV reported.

“We have a million tea bags here, and we don’t have a place to put them because it’s not on our permit,” said Rebecca Wales, lead organizer of D.C. Tea Party.

A D.C. think tank, the free market Competitive Enterprise Institute, said it would allow the dumping of the tea bags in its 12th floor conference room instead. [Pols emphasis]

At the Lafayette Square protest, someone reportedly threw a box of tea bags over a White House fence, forcing the Secret Service to briefly evacuate the North Lawn area.

A second D.C. rally that had been planned outside the Treasury Department also was foiled by the lack of a permit.

Sadly for the rabid anti-tax teabaggers, this is what it has come to: They can dump their symbolic tea bags in somebody’s 12th floor conference room in D.C. That is, if they haven’t already chucked them over fences like at the White House in between yelling “Death to the President!”

But…but…

“It’s the Reagan coalition reorganizing itself,” Gingrich spokesman Rick Sawyer said.

Uh, yeah. People around the country are having a good laugh at the sexual connotations of your name, while you’re left wondering what to do with a shitload of tea bags. We’ll be the first to say that Ronald Reagan would almost certainly be embarrassed by this bunch.

    1. ” Obama’s a fascist because he is ”

That kind of thinking is going to get our economy back on track.  I wish we had thought of that.

      Like I said this morning:

      “rightwing naysayer obstructionist kooks…

have all the answers for sure.  Look for the unveiling of some very well thought out and detailed policy proposals today.”

          1. I have doubts which can be placated with about 10 minutes of research, but I refuse to do it, so I remain ignorant.  But i’m still suspicious damnit !

    2. how up to 26% of the American population is delusional enough to believe such nonsense.

Fascism defined at dictionary.com (scroll down a bit):

“A form of political behavior marked by obsessive preoccupation with community decline, humiliation or victimhood and by compensatory cults of unity, energy and purity, in which a mass-based party of committed nationalist militants, working in uneasy but effective collaboration with traditional elites, abandons democratic liberties and pursues with redemptive violence and without ethical or legal restraints goals of internal cleansing and external expansion.” Robert O. Paxton, “The Anatomy of Fascism,” 2004

Yep, sure sounds like Obama and the Democrats to me!

    1. Maybe even sniff it, eh?

RR set us on this path that has put us here today.  He was the first “Movement Republican” elected to office and he put the deregulation car into overdrive. He gave us more debt than all previous presidents combined.  He started the destruction, while governor, of the nation’s finest university system.  He turned coat on his working class origins and knocked up his second wife to be.  He grew to love money and power and fuck the folk who still not rich or powerful.

He was a wonderful speaker, I’ll give him that.  Got a lot of suckers to go along with him.

PS, it’s his jockSTRAP.  Jock is an adjective here.

      1.    Part of the immorality of Ronald Reagan was convincing an entire generation that they could get something for nothing.

The Shrub, with his tax cuts for rich folks and his runaway spending programs simply took Reaganomics to its next step.

    1. and some of the signs folks were carrying were so interesting I copied them down to share:

Many “Don’t Tread On Me” flags and signs – which I find ironic since the original symbolism behind the snake flag had to do with unity and not division.

      “Comrade Obama, Up Yours”

“No Taxation without Representation” – again, interesting since apparently this person doesn’t live in a Congressional District (or from D.C. participating in our rally here since D.C.’s rally was a joke).

“This is John Galt Speaking” – side note, no other words on the sign, so not quite sure what Galt was saying and to whom.

“Obama Bin Laden” – always classy, that one.

“Stop Liberal Spending!” – an eight year old was holding this one and when I asked if he knew what liberal spending was he said no.  His father didn’t seem very pleased with me.

“Got Duped?” – which, of course, is not only a grammatically incorrect take off on the milk ad, but also ironic in so many ways that a Republican held the sign.

“Socialism is for Losers!” – a bunch of Chinamen might take umbrage with this, but hey, to each their own.

“Capitalism built America, not Government!” – an interesting revisionist historical take on America, but more interesting since the sign holder was chanting with the crowd against bailout money going to the banks (which I thought protected capitalism and our financial sector – but, who am I to argue).

All of the above and more was fine, other peoples’ opinions and all, but what pissed me off, and made me leave the rally with a sardonic grin on my face, was when the crowd kept chanting,

“My country! My country! My country!”

Chanting “Drill baby drill” is one thing, chanting that you have exclusive right to the country just makes people look sheltered, shallow and stupid.

So thanks to all you bible thumping, right wing, anti-tax, non-baby-killing, white, middle/upper class, crap ass parking folk who came down to the capitol today to entertain me during my lunch hour!

        1. Although, I really, really wanted to see One Queer Dude out there with a sign illustrating the true meaning of teabag.

That might have presented a little balance…

          1. What are a few more lies when Americans have come to expect lies from Republicans?  The Republican brand is so gutter bound that I guess they just figure that a few more lies won’t hurt.

  1. It seems like the groundswell of support the Republicans were looking for lacks the actual swell.  It was a nice sunny day to be outside, I guess people had other things to do.

    5/1/06 – 75,000 plus – May Day march for immigrant rights;

    10/26/08 – 100,000 plus – Speech by candidate Barack Obama;

    4/15/09 – almost 5,000 – Tea bag party.

  2. Where were all these folks in all their righteousness when GWB and the Republican Congress was running up the DEBT that these clowns now seem so upset about?

Never mind, as is constantly pointed out here, don’t let the facts get in the way of your partisan bull.

Obama inherited the debt he didn’t create it.  Moreover, it was the disasterous Bush tax cuts and the completely unneccessary war in Iraq (and the looting of our treasury by Cheney pals through sweetheart deal contracts) that got us here.

Okay, I’ll stop.  But Jeez, it pisses me off.
