Ken Buck cites imaginary polls

(It’s…THAT poll…hey, look over there! – promoted by Colorado Pols)

Ken Buck’s campaign is taking a page from the Beauprez camapaign’s citing of polls that didn’t actually exist to exaggerate their viability. Take this excerpt from the Greeley Tribune’s story on Buck’s announcement:

Buck said he believes he can cross political lines and get support from unaffiliated and Democratic voters. He’s seen early polls, but he doesn’t put much stock in them.

“I’ve been ahead (of Bennet) in some polls, and been behind in other polls,” Buck said. “I think it’s too early to tell.”

He plans to go on an “announcement tour” of the state this summer.

“My opponent at this point is Senator Bennet and the folks who are in Washington, D.C., spending all kinds of money,” Buck said. “That’s who I’m focusing on.”

What polls have shown Ken Buck ahead? The only public poll conducted so far has been a questionable PPP poll and even that showed him trailing by 6-points. It seems unlikely that the RNC or NRSC would be polling this early and no one would have heard about it or that Buck’s campaign was illegally conducting polls and racking up expenses before he filed.

  1. A consultant can run polls all they want, privately, and then approach a candidate and say “I have a poll showing you up by 3 in this race, you should run.”

Why spend money on a poll and share its results for nothing?  Future business from the candidate when a committee is in place.

    1. I would never feed a candidate bullshit just to get him to run.

Winning is good for your track record.  Losing sucks.  Good candidates are the key to winning.  If you use bullshit to sucker a lousy candidate into a race just to get the business, it’s gonna hurt your won-lost record.

Not good in the long run.
