Strickland confirmed by the Senate

( – promoted by Colorado Pols)

With a vote of 89-2.  Who were the 2 nays?  Jim Bunning (R-KY), and Roger Wicker (R-MS).

Bunning has a seat on Energy and Natural Resources, the committee of jurisdiction over Interior and thus the committee of vetting for Strickland’s nomination.  As far as I can tell, Bunning didn’t attend the confirmation hearing.  But Wicker (freshman) does not sit on ENR, and there’s no obvious public record that has him voicing opposition.  The only thing I can come up with is Bunning and Wicker opposing anybody/everybody on abortion grounds no matter how far removed abortion is from their job responsibilities.

And this probably doesn’t help.

  1. Maybe someone will give a shit about Tom if they think Kenny has a shot at the bump to the 3rd leg of government.

Politically I think its too early for Kenny to be bumped up, but I’d support it over 97.3% of other likely Obama’s choices.

Any bets on The Stash getting a reciprocal bump to SECINT? And would Mark Udall be secretly jealous?

    1. I don’t believe anyone ever called him Kenny, but you sound so familiar with him.

It’s virtually inconceivable Strickland would “get a reciprocal bump” to secretary of Interior, though you’re right, Udall would probably be jealous if it happened.
