A kind soul passed along a fundraising letter that former Rep. Marilyn Musgrave sent out to supporters soliciting donations for her new effort, Votes Have Consequences.
Details are available at my Coloradoan blog here: http://tr.im/kMXq
Suffice it to say Musgrave doesn’t have kind words for her opponents, which now appears to include the GOP hierarchy.
A couple excerpts that explain how she sees Votes Have Consequences, the new effort she’s leading for the Susan B. Anthony List:
“We will spread the truth about their destructive agendas, drag down their approval ratings, force them to publicly defend socialism, authoritarian gun-grabbing, gay marriage, infanticide and everything else they vote for in Washington, and ultimately, on November 2, 2010, we will take their jobs away from them.”
“I’m launching Votes Have Consequences to play a critical role in that fight — to attack liberal candidates who deserve to be attacked, and to defend conservatives when the Republican National Committee is nowhere to be found.”

I definitely want Marilyn Musgrave playing in my district, making my opponent look like a loon.
Bob I do not live in Fort Collins but I do get your paper. Why do you continually keep writing about former Rep. Musgrave? I do not understand this strange love/hate/whatever obsession you have with her but there are many more important things for you to be writing about.
MountainDem, my blog is a small piece of what I do at the Coloradoan. I use it to cover some of the offbeat and not-so-terribly important things I come across as I’m researching political stuff. The heavy-duty stuff I save for the news columns (see today’s story on the Coloradoan’s lawsuit against CSU over the chancellor selection process; that’s a example of where most of my time goes.)
Musgrave represented my readership area in Congress and continues to play a role in the political process (as evidenced by the letter I’ve quoted from). I think a good part of my readership is interested in what their political figures are up to. Certainly not all of them; those who aren’t interested are free to move on to something else. I assume you must be somewhat interested, as you seem to read and comment every time I write about Musgrave, but not on anything else I’ve posted on Pols. I never quite understand the “I don’t like your subject matter so stop writing about it” line of thinking.
I think the contents of Musgrave’s fundraising letter, sent out to help influence electoral outcomes in 2010, is of enough interest to enough people to warrant a mention. Based on the views my blog is getting on this subject, a goodly number of people agree.
Bob this is the first I’ve ever commented on one of your articles. Frankly I was not aware you wrote of anything besides Musgrave on here but I will make a point to post on those too when I see them.
Had MountainDem confused with another poster. Same basic thought applies, though: If you’re not interested, skip to something that does interest you. Click on my byline above and feel free to browse the postings I’ve made since I started writing diaries back in April. I do appreciate you taking the time to post three times on a subject that doesn’t interest you. I’ll take readership anyway I can get it. 🙂
This is yet another post by you criticizing Bob for his “obsession” with Musgrave. You seem to be a little obsessed with Bob…
Many of us find Musgrave’s continuing antics fascinating.
I didn’t realize I voted for Obama because I supported “gun-grabbing” and “infanticide.” Hysterical statements like Musgrave’s just make the GOP seem like the party of nuts and teabaggers.
This is the first I’ve ever commented about Bob’s articles about Musgrave. Others (Repubs) have done it before and they are right. Writing a story a week about someone who no longer represents us is very odd.
So true. Now that Betsy has doused her with a bucket of water, it’s entertaining to watch Musty shout out, “Help me, I’m melting…”
On a related note, I was at a BBQ last week at which a group of middle-aged gay men started discussing whatever became of Anita Bryant.
Mad Cow is destined for the same spot in oblivion.
Musgrave’s project is a desperate scream for relevance…and the relevance of her signature brand of gay-baiting mixed with victimhood.
Now she’s just determined to drag future Republican candidates down with her.
I mean, Bryant not Madcow.
there is no date of death listed.
On a lighter note, she hasn’t had a charted single since 1964.
🙂
and it is 4 remarkable pages of rage and raving. I think it is hilarious. And Musgrave comedy must be shared. Bob may bang the Musgrave drum a bit too often, but it passes the time.
Look, I’ve got no stake in this save that I live in what was once Musgrave’s district, and am well aware that the bumper stickers on my car betray me as a “gun-grubbing,infanticidal socialist” to many of my neighbors. Is it a percentage we need to worry about? Perhaps not, but neither is what she’s doing at VHC “lunacy” or something to be laughed at.
The simple fact is that we know wedge language like this works, especially on unaffiliated homophobic men (or is that redundant up here?) and women who do not find the word ‘patriarchy’ problematic (ditto?). Democrats have a lot to lose from “radicalization” of the electorate in these districts, and so too at the state level in the gubernatorial race.
It is important that those who are working to support Democrats know and understand the ways Musgrave continues to do HARM to her district by dividing it, and preventing its representatives from addressing the issues we face.
So, thanks, Bob, and keep up the OPFOR tracking!
