Flerlage for Congress Receives Key Endorsements

  • by: jflerlage

This is shaping up to be a break-out quarter for the campaign. In the last two weeks, we have received endorsements from former Senate President Joan Fitz-Gerald, Jefferson County Commissioner Kathy Hartman, 2008 CD 6 nominee Hank Eng, and the pilots of United Airlines. With the previous endorsements we have shown that we can lay the groundwork, not only in the District, but throughout Colorado, to mount a strong and succesful challenge to the incumbent.

    1. While getting your name out is one thing, you can also get just as much press when you put together an impressive fundraising effort.  In fact just got a fundraising call from Cantor tonight, good to see the candidate hard at work.

  1. Rule No. 1: Never mention the name of “the incumbent,” because that only legitimizes him (or her). In the many debates “the incumbent” is sure to attend, be sure to call him (or her — we still don’t know which it is!) “my opponent.”

Rule No. 2: Not so sure Hank Eng’s endorsement gets you much.

      1. Have a little respect. I don’t like the man’s politics, but I’ll at least do him the respect of calling him Rep. Coffman (or at least Mike Coffman, or Mr. Coffman or something.)

Coffman may be a bit of a political prima donna, but he won a GOP primary that was supposed to be close by an 8% margin IIRC. Lack of respect for one’s opponent almost always leads to underestimating them on the campaign trail. It would be a huge mistake for a non-quixotic candidate to do that; for someone like Mr. Flerlage, it might as well be the nail in the coffin. Or should I say, nail in the Coffman?

  2. There are sure a bunch of angry posters on here. Did we all wake up on the wrong side of the bed? Cut the guy some slack.

Flerlage is a primary and all of the support he just picked up will help him increase his support with the dem base.

Fitz-Gerald and Hartman are very strong leaders across the state and there support of John not only shows he is in a good place but that he is building a strong core to take on Coffman.

We all know it will be a tough fight but he is building the support he needs to win the primary and then take on the fight to knock off Coffman.

      1. when they start to take the race seriously. Posting on ColoradoPols, much as I love this site, does not indicate a serious campaigner. Do you know what does? Money. Lots of it. When Flerlage puts up some solid fundraising numbers I’ll shut up with my scolding, I promise. In fact, I will gladly shut up because I would love to see Flerlage give Coffman a serious run for his money, but it ain’t happening just yet and I’m not going to pat someone on the head for going through the motions.

        1. Both John and David are great guys running to do just that, take on coffman. They are both first timers doing this and compared to some of the folks who have run in the past are doing great.

Once people meet John and learn his story and background I assume the money will roll in. Being I’ve fundraised for numerous races in the state the donors will get it and support him. Between his Union ties and his background in the airforce it will come together for him.

Coffman will be hard to beat yes, yes we all know you cannot blog your way to congress, yes we all know you need money. In the end I am sure Both of the dems running are trying to raise money.

      2. who step up to challange an incumbent in a safe seat.

Sure, we’ll treat the Republicans taking on DeGette, Polis and Salazar with equal support, especially if they take the bold stand of refusing to identify their opponents by name! It’s campaigning genius!
