Polis Leads Democrats To Triumph Over Republican Party

  • by: Colorado Pols

As the Vail Daily reports:

The Vail Valley’s congressmen, Rep. Jared Polis, joined his fellow Democrats in beating the Republicans, 15-10, in Wednesday night’s 48th Annual Roll Call Congressional Baseball Game at Washington’s National Stadium.

The win marks the first victory for the Democratic Team since the Clinton Administration. [Pols emphasis]

Polis entered the game early, hitting a successful sacrifice fly and knocking in a run for the Democrats. The freshman Congressman batted twice, getting a hit in his second at-bat…

The seven-inning exhibition game benefits Washington Literacy Council and the Metropolitan Police Boys and Girls Clubs. Despite a late Republican rally in the seventh inning, the Democrats held onto a lead to ultimately win.

The Colorado Independent notes some back-and-forth over whether Polis’ absence due to this game from President Obama’s memorandum signing on the extension of limited benefits to same-sex partners of federal employees, coming after other moves by the administration that have infuriated gay rights activists, amounted to a “boycott.” Polis insists it wasn’t, and we don’t doubt that he was on the roster in advance. Given that the aforementioned Obama memo is more or less going over like a lead balloon in terms of placating the GLBT community, not to mention that this was the most important game of baseball ever played at the new Nationals Stadium in D.C. (the Nats really suck), we’d say Polis made the right choice.

And come on, partisans, the Dems drilled the GOP. Look at our headline. You want to gloat.

      1. I am so sick of saying “Wait ’til next year.”

I had an uncle who spent his entire life waiting until next year—he died four years ago at 74 having never seen his Cubbies win a series.

        1. I come from a White Sox family so we got to actually see our Chicago team win the World Series. I grew up laughing at the lame Cubs, not despairing over them. Sox always way cooler.

Congrats to Polis.  Apparently Dems don’t need a don’t ask don’t tell policy to preserve team morale. They just need the best players.

            1. but in Chicago you don’t change hereditary family loyalties. And who could  switch to a little boy team with a cute little cubbie logo from the real man Sox?  Not me! I stand with my President on this one.

              1. For 100 years, my mom’s side have been Cubs fans.

My dad was a Sox fan and we all hated him for it, too, so you’re in good company. 🙂

        2. … that someone showed up to Wrigley Field on Opening Day with a sign that read “Wait ’til Next Year!” That was probably during one of their truly dismal stretches. They’ve been a pretty reliable contender for several years now…
