Protest in Solidarity with Iran

  • by: Barron X

.

I applied for a permit to hold an event tomorrow on the Capitol steps, 11 AM to 1 PM, and was denied:

someone else already has that time slot sewn up.

GOOD NEWS: That permit is issued to an individual who, just like me, wants to have a protest against the stolen election in Iran!!

I don’t know yet if everybody and their brother are invited.  I got the individual’s name, [redacted], and he’s on facebook, but I don’t have an account.  If someone who has a facebook account would ask him if he wants random strangers showing up, please come back and post that info here.

.

.

and if you could ask him to email me, that would be even better: Barron.X.X then “at” and then Gmail.

I started inviting speakers yesterday, without a permit in hand, and need to update them about what will happen tomorrow.

As soon as I have something to share I will post it here.

  1. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei spoke to the Iranian people during Friday prayers June 19, siding with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and ordering protesters to end their demonstrations. Khamenei has decided that using force to suppress the uprising is worth the risk, even if it leads to greater infighting among the power brokers of the system. It remains unclear if Ahmadinejad’s opponents will stage a showdown, but the protests have grown enough in size and energy to take on a life of their own.

    1. Or very brief.  Or both.

As you say, the protests have enough size and energy to take on a life of their own now.  This isn’t going to stop just because lots of someones get shot.  The military has been sitting it out (and apparently intends to remain in that mode); the Revolutionary Guard has dissent in its ranks; the police have been sitting on the sidelines.  Unless Khamenei can demonstrate control over these forces, this will continue…  They’ve already seen beatings and shootings by the Basij and haven’t slowed down one bit.  The media’s starting to shift in Mousavi’s direction…

BTW, Mousavi is apparently still planning on a huge protest tomorrow.

  2. .

I’ve been contacted through email by the person who is organizing tomorrow’s event.

I had asked the permit office to send him my contact info.

While you are free to do what you want, this is an extremely sensitive time.  I expect crackdowns to start today or tomorrow.

The organizer asked me to consider the following guidance:

It is absolutely a reassuring move for us here and the Iranians in our home country. We truly appreciate your kind support and sympathy and your expression of solidarity with Iranians.

However, I would like to share our concerns with you in this regard:

    1. We are merely protesting the election fraud, supporting democracy and freedom and condemning violence and injustice. We are not advertising any political views or agendas. It is intended to be a non-political non-partisan demonstration.

2.Considering the current situation in Iran, we do not want the opposition parties in Iran be accused of betrayal and being leaded by foreign organizations, etc.

So, you are more than welcome to join us, but if you would like to have your placards and speakers on the west steps, please consider our above concerns and avoid conflicts.

Although your demonstration title clearly indicates that it will be unbiased, I should emphasize that if your speeches or signs are clearly supporting specific political views, please either choose a slightly different location or ask your speakers to explicitly mention that the our crowd has gathered there independent of your rally.

Consequently, I am asking that people who attend participate in silence.  Wear green.  You might make a “Where is my vote ???” sign at home and bring it.

But my earlier ideas about having representatives of several religions speak, and representative from far left and far right speak, as a way to show that all of America was in support,

that now looks like a bad idea, too easy to misrepresent with selective editing.

This is a time to bear silent witness.

Lives are truly in the balance.  Please be respectful of the Colorado Iranians who have organized this.

    Dear Brian,

Thanks so much for your consideration and care for the people of Iran. Please feel free to invite as many people as you like. We will have some placards and banners (including “where is my vote ???”), and will have a green theme in general.

    Here is the facebook event:

The point is to support the people of Iran, by informing the world of their demands, which are supporting democracy and condemning violence and injustice.

Please do not impose any other political views or agendas.

I also sent this reminder a to the guests a few minites ago:

    Dear invitees:

This is a reminder for tomorrow’s event “Iranian Election Fraud Protest in Colorado”. Please consider the following guidelines:

    – This gathering is a protest regarding the election turmoil in Iran and to condemn violence and injustice towards the Iranian people.

    – Our main goal is to support democracy and freedom in Iran. We are not promoting any specific political views, biases or agendas. Therefore, this demonstration is intended to be a non-political, non-partisan gathering.

We truly appreciate your presence, support and consideration.

You can add my facebook account or another specifically made account, Protest Fraud, so that I can send you the facebook event.

By the way, we had decided to keep the organizer group anonymous to avoid future circumstances.  I would appreciate it if you advertise the event without mentioning my name.

    Regards,

    Event Coordinator
