Penry's Campaign Website Almost Live

  • by: Colorado Pols

SATURDAY AM UPDATE: And there it is. Not bad, is it? At first glance, all mountains used in the making of Penry’s website appear to be authentic.

Much better logo, too.

UPDATE #2: Our friend Dave with Penry’s freshly delivered speech.

We’ve been checking periodically the registered domain name penryforgovernor.com, the most likely location for about-to-be gubernatorial candidate Josh Penry’s website, for some time now–helpfully, as we always try to do, for any signs of life. The last time we checked, just a day or so ago, we got a generic “coming soon” page as created when the domain was registered.

And here’s what we got today:

All you have to do is bumble around a little to an error message, and you can see that penryforgovernor.com has been pointed to a very nice (presumably, it’s there anyway) Microsoft-based web server, on which we’re told by actual tech people “virtual directories” can be switched around with a couple of clicks. To live ones, for example, sometime tomorrow morning.

Anyway, we just thought we’d share that with you, it’s not like we needed any additional proof.

  1. Might want to check back at PenryforGovernor.com, it’s live.  Great looking website with mountains that reside within the friendly confines of Colorado.

No JV mistakes with this one folks.

    1. A GOP campaign launch that is professional & effective. I don’t know, we’ll have to wait and see if that works well…

Key phrase from the welcome for those that wanted to be 100% sure:

That is why I am asking for your support as I run to be the next Governor of the State of Colorado.

  2. Do a Google on “Scott McInnis” and he’s 8th – with a title of “Our Site”. Way to be clueless dude.

Penry’s state senate site is first for “Josh Penry”. On the flip side, no mention on his site that he’s now running for governor.

  3. Penry vs McInnis in a Republican primary…how could the Democrats be so lucky?! Both guys like to hit below the belt when it comes to campaigning, so this will be no gentleman’s race. No other politicians are so deserving of each other.

Wonder what Penry’s and McInnis’ oil-and-gas 527 buddies will do? Put stakes on their favorite horses now or wait? Or just go after Ritter for the next year and leave the rah-rahs for Republican candidate governor for Sept-Nov 2010?

It’ll be interesting to read the GJ Sentinel to see how the primary winds blow their editorial sail leading up to August 2010, too.

And then there will be the shuffling of Repubican cards for Penry’s senate seat. Mesa Dems should look long and hard for one helluva candidate (especially to remind  Mesa voters what they didn’t get when they traded in Buescher for Bradford.)

One thing for sure, Colorado bloggers are going to have some of the best seats in the nation for the 2010 elections.

  4. It’s all about Penry, not Colorado.  Hell, there are even two buttons to select titled “about Josh”. The site lacks any real policy positions or direction for our state.  But this is what people who have followed Penry know.  This is about feeding ego, not competent governance.  I guess if you have followed his Senate activity, you already know that competent governance is not his strong suit. Selling himself, ala Sarah Palin, is.

    1. First, he is running as an insurgent against both the Republicans and the Democrats. He is running as the outsider but the second part of his strategy will get him in the same trouble as Beauprez.

The second prong is to go back to the no new taxes pledge and that even with no money and declining revenues he will magically solve the transportation needs etc. of the state. A reporter should ask him how he will rebuild the elevated portion of I-70 east of I-25 which the latest figures show will cost at least $800 million or the new interchange at I-25 and U.S. 34 which is estimated to cost $100 million without any new revenue sources and how is he going  to do all of this when he has supported slashing government revenues, including removing money from water projects on the West Slope. He is promising everything and it won’t cost any of us one dime.

His strategy to run as an insurgent against both parties is clever but his campaign hits a brick wall shortly after that.

    1. Penry’s speech while long winded was well written and substantive.  If the well organized announcement is any indication this guy should not be underestimated. I did not think they would pull  off the announcement as well as they have.

I still have Ritter the favorite in November 2010 and Penry now the overwhelming favorite to win the GOP nomination.

  5. Penry announces bid for governor

Published July 11, 2009 @ 10:46 am by Paul Shockley

    “We are in.”

With that, Jamie Penry confirmed what was printed on campaign T-Shirts selling for $10 on the front lawn of the old Mesa County Courthouse on Saturday morning: Her husband, Josh, will challenge Democrat incumbent Bill Ritter for governor in 2010.

Sen. Penry, R-Grand Junction, minority leader of the state Senate, ended speculation before a crowd of approximately 200 supporters.

“Are we better off than we were three years ago?” Penry said in a speech that hammered Ritter as “weak and ineffective.”

Penry made no mention of Republican rivals. Before he can challenge Ritter, Penry will have to defeat his former boss, six-time U.S. Rep Scott McInnis, in the Republican primary.

…Read much more overnight or in Sunday’s edition of The Daily Sentinel.

      1. reported there was only 100 at Penry’s political wake.  And from the video, I’d agree. Let’s see.  30 Penry family members.  30 repoters.  30 Dems, Indies and moderates stopping by to watch a train wreck.  Guess that leaves 10 local Republican Party officials, eh?

  6. There he is…

    GJ Sentinel

Penry is a finge right oaf, but I have to admit he’s done a lot better than McInnis’ nonannouncement and gaffing it up. How is he going to respond?

    1. McInnis is done. Penry’s articulate (with rehearsed talking points) and tends not to stray too far from the script.

I don’t think McInnis can put up much of a fight, but I’d love to see one anyway.

    1. What’s with the sunrise in the 0 on 2010?  THAT’s original!  There really are so many comparisons between Penry and Obama, after all…

  7. Penry had a great announcement.  No flaws.

McInnis, screwed up announcement to cover a 527/ finince gaff and Lake Louise.

Ritter pissed of the last of his supporters on Fracing comment and now must deal with the Hogan and Hartson mess.

For Penry, may July never end.

    1. Oh, please.

But if you really want to believe Ritter is sailing into the next election with no supporters, go right ahead.

Good point about Penry, though. His one hour on the public stage since early May — went off without a hitch.

      1. I also want Ritter to win in ’10. But that does not mean you should dismiss Penry’s chances just because you would never vote for him.

Ritter & Udall did not so much win as their opponents did their best to lose. With Penry I think we’re going to find out if a Dem can win statewide against a competent opponent. The only person who has done that recently is Cary Kennedy.

        1. Where do you find competence?  The ability to deliver a self-serving speech? What competent plan has he ever provided for the future of Colorado?  Penry has proven himself to be nothing but a run-of-the-mill, kill government, just-say-no fraud.

        2. My point was merely that Penry has been center-stage for all of an hour, so jpj’s praise was premature.

You’ll recall (or perhaps you won’t, since many of the instances have been refuting your claims) that I’ve been saying since February that Penry and Frazier will be formidable nominees. Though your assessment of competence is also premature — in July 2005 and July 2007, Beauprez and Schaffer, respectively, had yet to display what kinds of campaigns they would run.

          1. Penry worries me a lot and so I don’t want to see people discounting him. I think he’ll be a really tough competitor. And he’s going to hang the poor economy around the Gov’s neck. And while the state budget is probably Ritter’s finest accomplishment, most voters will not see it that way.

        3. This will be the first election in a while without the name Salazar or Obama appearing statewide (John Salaza will appear on 1/7th of the ballots).  I think the turnout of minority votes in 2010 is in question.

Will hispanics (2006) and afican amerians (2008) show up at Colorado polling booths in record numbers for team Ritter and Bennett?

  8. Has anyone noticed the prevalence of gray and black on the Penry website? Very dour and depressing.

Must be the Republicans trying to subliminally get us in the mood for our future, should they win.

Also, the little “half-sun” emblem is an obvious ripoff of Obama’s imagery. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

  10. I just checked the SoS and can’t find any active candidate campaign with Penry’s name on it. What’s up?

I did find records for two terminated candidate committees – his old HD54 campaign and his Senate Dist 7 committee.

He transferred $5,062.73 that remained in his SD7 campaign to “Penry for Governor” on July 10, 2009. (No such committee comes up when searching the SoS website, even though his closing of his SD7 committee does show up on the SoS website.)

However, as can be seen in photos of his announcement today (July 11) he had posters and banners and stickers and t-shirts all emblazoned with Governor race logos. He has a spiffy and professional website.

Has Penry been raising and spending (lots of) money prior to declaring as a candidate in this race?

I thought that once you spent money, you were a candidate and you had better have registered with the SoS prior to this.
