1. So I texted my $10 to the Red Cross – thanks for the link, Pols.

   And now for the political speculation. Here are two maps of the Gulf Coast of Texas. The one on the left (or maybe top depending on formatting) is from the National Weather Service, of precipitation levels from Hurricane Harvey.

   The 2nd map is of precincts that went for Romney vs. Obama in 2012.

   

   Where will Congress come down on disaster aid to Texas and Louisiana? I predict that they will vote for disaster aid, since Texas is "red",(Trump has already signed off on Fed disaster funds), but they will try to use the "shock doctrine" to argue for offsetting cuts in basic social safety net programs.

   I'm predicting also that Texas Gov. Abbott will find room in his heart for all of the red precincts, yet somehow neglect the blue ones, which are, after all, filled with college liberal students and Latinos.

   Where will our own Cory Gardner come down on this? Remember how much pushback he got for arguing for flood relief for Colorado in 2013, while he voted to shut down the government earlier that year, (but denied that vote), thus forcing Colorado to pay for disaster relief out of its own budget? How is Pretzel Man going to vote for disaster relief for Texas, while voting for a government shutdown, this year? Or will he suddenly discover his "compassionate conservative" side again?

   If nothing else, this comment ought to bring our trolls back on board, to chide me for "making this disaster political".  In 1, 2, 3…

         I can walk and chew gum at the same time. How about you?

         I’ll challenge anyone who posts on here to play “Whack a Troll” vs. Moddy (or respond to my post) must donate for Harvey relief. If you don’t care to play Whack-a-Troll, you can still donate to Harvey relief. Capiche?

2. From CNN: This is what it's like in the flood zone in Texas now. These Dickinson, TX assisted living residents were evacuated via helicopter, but there are others. Carrie Ann Lucas, hero of the Gardner occupation, suggests another charity to donate to: Portlight Inclusive Disaster Strategies. They help people with disabilities before, during, and after disasters.
