Are You Not Running for Governor, Either?

  • by: Colorado Pols

The Denver Post reported last week that Republican businessman Brian Watson announced — yes, he actually issued a statement making the “announcement” — that he would not run for Governor in 2010:

“Though I received a tremendous amount of support and encouragement for this endeavor, the current state of the economy and the repercussions of the downturn felt by each and every citizen are issues that I must deal with as well,” he said in a letter.

“While I had hoped to be a public servant who aided in the recuperation of our economy and improvement of our state, ultimately, the well being of my family and the ±235 people I employ in Colorado are important.”

We love the “plus or minus 235 people” in his company. Way to show confidence in your employees!

But we digress. Watson’s interest in the race for Governor was completely irrelevant, and it was only misplaced hubris that made him think he needed to issue a statement about not running for Governor (what, you didn’t hear about the “Draft Brian Watson” grassroots efforts, either?).

So with that in mind, we thought we’d open the floor for all of you Polsters to make your formal announcements below of elected offices that you will not be seeking in 2010.

  1. I will not be running for the State House in House District 51, primarily because I do not live in House District 51.

Don’t forget to tweet all your friends with the news.

    1. I hope you are more thorough than this Brian Watson fellow. A press release? A blog comment?

You should put up a website devoted to your non-candidacy just so everybody is clear…and start raising some money…and knocking some doors…and recruiting a team of sock-puppets and Indonesian hackers to be at the ready when Colorado Pols starts making fun of your staff hires.

  2. Colorado chapter of the Sarah Palin Fan Club. I do not wish to challenge state senator Josh Penry, who currently holds and covets that title. He will need something to fall back on when he gets trounced in his race for Colorado governor.

I will, however, encourage him to take up Palins’ new slogan…”Quit, Baby, Quit!”

    1. Someone like you who’s used to throwing stones from the sidelines would NEVER subject yourself to running for office.  It’s much easier to stand aside and complain about how others are leading.

BTW, how’s fundraising at WCC going?  I hear the group is just about officially belly-up.

      1. I am devastated by your razor sharp wit and uncanny ability to inject ad hominem attacks in almost every context.

I have not run for office because I am terrified of having to face the withering scrutiny of brain trusts like you.

As to the WCC…you just keep on believing your own misinformed rhetoric and we will keep on enjoying the show.

  3. With the current state of the economy, and the fact that I’m not old enough to run for US Senate, I’ve decided to pull out of the race.

  4. no point in running if I can’t lose to redstateblues. And I think Cleve will too hard for me to beat, even with no money to pay for the campaign.

However I’m not ruling out Mesa County Dog-Catcher, although I would have to move there first…

    1. that you’re running for Mesa County dogcatcher, I hereby announce to all of my prospective supporters that I will not pursue the post. Furthermore, I ask my supporters and delegates-in-waiting to throw their support behind A-bob. Maybe if A-bob buys a house in Mesa County, it will help the local real estate industry.

      1. my hope is that we can all unite around a single candidate to avoid a nasty election like we’ve seen before in the races for dog-catcher.

        I’ll have my announcement soon.

  5. I am in the running for America’s Next Top Model.

I figure since my wife loves me and the show, it must be a perfect fit.

    Tyra, I await your call.

  6. I’m too busy running for President of Iran to run for governor.  Maybe next time.

On a vaguely related note, does anybody know how these automated ballot-box stuffers work?  I’ve lost my instruction manual.

  7. How do you hire negative 235 people?

This reminds me of a math joke I’ve probably told before.

A biology major, a physics major, and a math major are sitting on a park bench arguing over which field really explains nature. They see two people go into a house in the distance.

Half an hour later they see three people come out. They ask each other how their fields could explain it.

The biology major says they must have reproduced.

The physics major says it’s experimental error.

The math major says she’s just waiting for another person to enter the house, so it’ll be empty.

  8. NOT running for the position as the next Republican “Bush’s Brain”.

I’m also not running for President, mostly because New Jersey can’t provide me with a birth certificate that has my baby footprints and all the other stuff I supposedly need to prove I’m a citizen of the United State.

  9. I want to thank all my early supporters, but I will not being running for dog-catcher this election.

Instead I will be actively campaigning for the guy who does.

    1. on my refusal to consider not withdrawing from the imaginary irrational negative governor’s race. A team of professional mathematicians is still trying to figure out my campaign strategy (if there is one).
