What you can do to fight back this week (April 30)

In America today, no institution is more crucial to our success and at the same time vilified than our public education system. Without education, Americans can’t compete. But, here in Colorado our teachers lack the most essential resources they need to carry out their responsibilities in the classroom—and when teachers go home at night they struggle to feed their own families.

Something has to give.

For two days last week, thousands of Colorado teachers, students, and their supporters rallied at the Colorado state capitol to call for better funding for our public schools. After statewide votes and numerous attempts to increase funding for education, Colorado remains below the national average for both per-student funding and teacher salaries. As the economy in Colorado booms, ill-conceived limits on the state’s ability to raise revenue put in place over a quarter century ago prevent leaders from taking action even when they want to.

When the politicians can’t get their act together, it’s up to the people to stand up and demand better. Thanks to everyone who turned out last week to stand up for public education and the teachers who make education happen. With your help, this issue will be an important part of the debate heading into this year’s elections—and in 2019, when victory this year will enable real change.

Neurodiversity, Women and the Spirit of Courage

Signature Gathering Workshop-Protect CO from fracking!

Food & Water Watch is a part of CO Rising, a state-wide coalition of grassroots volunteers and local groups who are ready to protect Colorado communities from fracking. This summer, we have the opportunity to get an important initiative on the November ballot. It would keep fracking wells a minimum of 2,500 ft away from homes, schools, hospitals, and drinking water sources-to protect our air, water, and health from the fracking industry!

Environmental Racism And Improving Allyship (350 Metro Denver)

Please join us at 350 Metro Denver, to talk about what environmental racism is, and what being an effective ally looks like. We will have a short presentation overview and then a panel discussion about these issues and sampling of what they may look like in the metro area. Help us learn how to come together to support each other, and ways in which we must consider a hierarchy or needs in our green projects and transition movements.

Denver Homeless Out Loud: Class Action Pre Trial Conference

The Class action lawsuit the homeless community has filed against the city of Denver has its pretrial conference May 2nd. Remember blankets and other personal property the city was caught confiscating from the homeless community without due process. The hearing will be procedural but lots of folks there to watch the proceedings before hand can only help hold the whole process accountable. Before hand we will have a quick rally and some statements for the press and food!

Repro Rights Roadshow—Longmont

Out Boulder County: Queer Prom: lgbtq+ youth & allies!

It’s that time of year again for our annual LGBTQ youth dance! Our youth planning committee has chosen DECADES as the theme of this year’s event! We will be celebrating queer history through the ages, with decade-themed activities and music! Costumes encouraged! Food & drinks will be provided! This event is FREE to attend for all LGBTQ youth and their allies, ages 13 – 18 (12 with guardian permission).
