Today is National Shower with a Friend Day. Don’t let COVID stop you.
It’s been over 30 days since Pols last ran a daily quote by a female. December featured 3: Annie Besant, Imelda Marcos, and Edith Sitwell. That brings the female to male monthly quote ratio up to 10% ( from the usual 4%, or one quote per month from a non-male).
Pols has run three quotes from men of color in the last month: Martin Luther King, Kahlil Gibran, and Nelson Mandela.
Yes, I do keep track. The rarity of quotes by those who are not dead, white, and male has made it easy to note the exceptions on a calendar. Yes, I have written privately and politely to the Alvas or the Dead Guvs about the lack of diversity in the daily quotes. I’ve never received any reply.
The Get More Smarter podcast has changed, and now appropriately, almost half its interviewees are female politicians and writers, or notable leaders of color such as Joe Neguse. The daily quotes can change, as well. Not all, or even most, political wisdom emanates from dead white men. Do better.
February is Black History month– a month more worthy of commemoration than Bubble Wrap Day, or whatever other nonsensical days Pols celebrates.
I challenge Pols to have at least half its daily quotes from African American leaders and writers- including women – in the month of February.
Here is one to get you started, on the terms “ equity” vs. “equality”:
The horror. The horror!
I’ve got a good one:
”Patriotism is the last refuge of scoundrels.”
Samuel Johnson (oh, darn. A white British male.)
Sure, that’s a good quote. Here are two more quotes about patriotism, by former First Ladies:
See how that works now? Not “instead of”, but “in addition to”…
From Imelda Marcos: "Shoes, I need more shoes"!
Thanks, kwtree. Important points.
Rep. Boebert paid off nearly $20K in state tax liens in 2020
Jeez…If her restaurant lost nearly a quarter of a million dollars, from whence came the money to pay the lien?
Jayson prolly doesn’t make enough to cover that..O&G being where it is nowadays.
Well there was that $22,000 "reimbursement". Just sayin'
But….but….that would be unethical, if not illegal! 😉
In all fairness, she DID just receive her first monthly paycheck as a Congresswoman ($14,600 before taxes) so there could well have been the bulk of the payment.
She got paid before she took office?
Seems like there are 3 possibilities for the source of the money to pay off the lien; 2 very bad and one very unlikely.
She used the reimbursement from her inflated milage. Unethical and potentially illegal.
She had a new source of income or credit – someone gave or loaned her the money. Someone that may want a favor in the future. Unethical and potentially illegal.
She developed a new source of income while she was running for office. Up until late 2020, she did not have the funds to pay this amount. This non-payment was not a political statement, she could not afford it. Did she suddenly, in the midst of a very time-consuming campaign, figure out how to get rich quick?
Wouldn't you think the Republican Party would want to get out in front of this, helping Rep. Boebert to clarify the Boebert campaign's finances and assure the CO-3 voters of Boebert's integrity and financial probity?
Perhaps either the out-going state chair or the candidates for the 2021-2023 chair would want to say SOMETHING about how this can get clarified and financially reconciled.

JD Greear urges pastors not to call VP Kamala Harris ‘Jezebel,' but to pray for her
And, here I thought Melania was Jezebel, or maybe Marla Maples, or possibly Dusty — but I may have that confused with the whore of Babylon — so many, it's hard to keep track . . .
We Jezebels are legion.
