The Presidential campaign of Republican Rick Perry has fallen apart so fast that the Texas Governor is having a hard time figuring out everyone to blame. But he and his wife, Anita, are doing their best to not leave anyone out.
You may remember that Perry faced charges of racism last month when it was reported that his family hunting ranch in Texas was named “Niggerhead.” But that’s not Perry’s fault! It’s because he has a “southern accent,” or something. From “The Fix“:
In an interview with the Des Moines Register, Perry says media like the Washington Post are anxious to attach the “racist” label to anyone with a Southern accent.
The Post recently wrote a story about a hunting camp that Perry’s family leased with a racially insensitive name.
“I think a lot of people get offended when the media elites try to paint everyone from the South who has a twang to their voice as somehow being racist,” Perry said.
Uh, sure. Everybody with a southern accent also uses the word “nigger” to name some piece of property, right?
But Perry’s troubles aren’t all because of his “southern accent.” No, sir. From Talking Points Memo:
Speaking at North Greenville University in South Carolina on Thursday, Anita Perry, the wife of GOP candidate Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX), admitted “it’s been a rough month” for her husband’s campaign. “We’ve been brutalized and eaten up and chewed up in the press,” she said.
“It is a comfort to know that I am in this place where I can feel the presence of God. We are being brutalized by our opponents, and our own party,” she said. “So much of that is, I think they look at him because of his faith.”
Got it? Perry is dropping in the polls among Republican voters because he is an Evangelical Christian. And there sure as heck aren’t a lot of Republican voters who are also Evangelical Christians, right?
Right?
