"Hot in the Kitchen!" A (Sexist) Energy Debate for Women?

  • by: Colorado Pols

Forwarded to us today, an upcoming event at the right-wing Independence Institute:

Oh look, she’s wearing oven mitts! Now the invitation says this “debate” is for women of “all political stripes,” but we found it on the website of the Arapahoe County Tea Party and have yet to see reference to it in a forum that might actually be read by a politically diverse audience. Not to mention that the title of this “debate” is liable to turn off women of…well, at least one political persuasion. A poll follows–cute icebreaker, or absurdly bad male chauvinist dreck?

Is the title "Hot in the Kitchen! An Energy Debate for Women" sexist?

  1. Because I have no idea at what they getting at. There is a common saying, attributed to Truman, that if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. That is not a sexist saying, and a reference to that is not sexist, but what does that have to do with “energy debates.” What does the kitchen have to do with energy debates? I sincerely don’t get the reference.

    1. Oh I know!  Women cook and clean dishes!!!

How about  ‘Hot in the Boardroom’  A series of three energy debates for women…

Or ‘Hot in the Greasepit’ A series of three energy debate for men.

    2. what with the “free on-site babysitting” provided?

Why do I know that the first speaker is gonna’ say something like, “fracking isn’t anything you gals need to worry your pretty little heads about . . . “?

This would be that same Independence Institute that got Ken Buck jabbering about high heels — that turned out pretty good for Republicans, huh?

    1. On a normal day, I’d be pretty pissed off at their characterization.  But after a weekend of mainstream media Ryan love (who is and who will continue to be infinitely worse for women’s rights than this insulting flyer is) I’m just exhausted.

  2. Seriously, though. It’s not too surprising when you really get to know the rampant and blatant sexism that permeates the entire oil and gas industry. It truly is a bastion of male chauvinism.

  3. It is sexist, but in a tongue-in-cheek kind of way in the same way that they do the ATF party every year (Although some people… cough-Buck-cough don’t get it).

I disagree with Caldera on a lot of things, but I miss his sense of humor on KOA.

  4. and she said it was “patronizing” and that it looked like it was produced by “someone’s home graphics business.” Meaning one of the crappy ones.

Bolstered by her observation, I voted Yes.

  5. Listen gals, I used to read the newspaper, and it got me really worried about the effect of cracking water pollution on my children’s health and the effect of slash-and-burn mining jobs on my husband’s career. But then I realized all this cheap new energy would let me cook my meatloaf at a slightly higher temperature! And now I just read those magazines they write for REAL ladies. You can too!

  6. Look at who is behind the efforts to ban the pill (and any other means of contraception). They have a great effort going, and spanning many years, to return our country to the Robber Baron years, and that includes family planning.

  7. 1,000 tons of sand

    1,000,000 gallons of farm-fresh water

Secret blend of herbs, spices, various chemicals, guar gum, and ‘food grade’ additives

Blend well and blast under pressure into the ground.

Yum!  That’s the best produced water this side of Texas!

Enjoy Colorado, and relax.  The state’s got it covered!  (And if you don’t think so, we’ll sue your ass!).

  8. Does that mean I am invited or not?  As a man I don’t fit the invite, but as the only person in my family who cooks (my wife’s idea of a cooked meal is usually not edible), I feel like the invite is aimed right at me.  The tea party confuses me so much??

Maybe if I show up in a dress with oven mitts and a tray of cookies  🙂
