One of These Names...Is Not Like the Other...

The featured guests at an Oct. 19 Koch Bros. fundraiser in NYC.
The featured guests at an Oct. 19 Koch Bros. fundraiser in New York City.

No doubt your invitation got lost in the mail, or else you might be tempted to fly to New York City for a fundraiser with the infamous Koch Brothers…including special guest Rep. Ken Buck (R-Greeley).

Wait, what?

Julia & David H. Koch; Marianne S. & John K. Castle; Carolyn & John Yurtchuk; Brian Henneberry…This is a pretty high-powered list of people hosting tonight’s event in NYC at The Metropolitan Club, and the special guests are some of the most well-known Republican Senators in the country. The event also includes August Wolf, a U.S. Senate candidate in Connecticut, and former U.S. Ambassador John Bolton.

Why, you ask, is Colorado’s own Ken Buck one of the six featured guests at tonight’s event? We have absolutely no idea. Buck’s name clearly jumps out among the featured guests listed for tonight — he’s the only Member of the House as a guest, and (as far as we know), Buck has no plans to run for higher office. Buck is also not really a well-known champion of any particular issue; he’s only been in Congress since January, and he’s not expected to face a serious challenge for re-election.

We’ll update this story as more information becomes available.

    1. Too bad Cat Scratch Fever isn't much in the way of an inspiring campaign song. If they could all just use that they wouldn't be constantly embarrassed by various artists demanding they cease and desist using their music.

      1. Are they putting a blindfold on the Congressman? There are a lot of 'those folks' in the Big Apple that will trigger sensations of nausea. While schmoozkng with the crackers at The Metropolitan Club he'll  be able to easily identify them: they'll be serving the cocktails and filet mignon.

  1. It isn't a mystery. Ken Buck is one of the politicians of any party getting a major share of donations from the top 1% of 1% of donors. These are the "gatekeepers" of political donations – because a candidate's viability is based so much on dollars raised, these multimillionaire men (mostly) and organizations can bypass the grassroots activists, and hand-pick friendly candidates.

Buck gets 29.8%  of his1.3 million dollar campaign budget from the top 1% of 1%, Only John Boehner, Justin Amash, both Republicans, and Cory Booker, Democrat, get more money from the .0001 elites. Michael Bennet gets about 20% of his campaign cash from this rarefied stratum of donors mostly in insurance and financial industries.

So this tells me that Ken Buck does not have a great deal of grassroots support, at least not financial support. His loyalties lie with his paymasters. – retired people, Republican Leadership PACS, and the oil and gas industry.

Club for Growth is a major funder. The Club is grooming future Republican governors – this may be what they have in mind for Ken Buck. So we may be incredulous at the idea that gaffe-prone, rumor mongering, climate change-denying Bucko attracts big money interest- but apparently, he does.

  2. What's wrong with having friends in high places?

MJ your post's financial information is as outdated as you are.  It is all Republican senate primary money ending in second quarter 2014. Current info can be found at the FEC site.

Buck has no grassroots support?  Over 60% in the general tells me otherwise.

Isn't it about time someone from the Colorado delegation is recognized for something other than being the worst dressed gay Congressman?
