Rep. Paul Ryan joins Coffman in calling Social Security a “Ponzi Scheme”

(Doubling down on the crazy? – promoted by Colorado Pols) In a Post titled, “It’s Alive! Despite GOP Warnings, Ponzi Scheme Meme Is Alive and Well on Capitol Hill,” Talking Points Memo’s Evan McMorris-Santoro reports today that Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WIS) has joined Rep. Mike Coffman in saying, on the radio, that Social Security is […]

What Is a Country Club Republican?

(The ones who like their taxes low and their parties loud – promoted by Colorado Pols) The Chairman of the El Paso County GOP Eli Bremer appearted on Grassroots Radio Colorado Tuesday to disucss various issues roiling El Paso Republicans. For those of you who’ve been following the story of the El Paso GOP, nothing has […]

Colorado Republicans Looking at Moving Caucus to February

From The Colorado Statesman: Colorado Republicans are considering moving the party’s 2012 caucuses ahead by a month to Feb. 7 if other states jump the gun and abandon a plan to delay the start of the presidential nominating calendar, state GOP Chairman Ryan Call told The Colorado Statesman on Tuesday. While both parties are currently […]

From Washington to El Paso County, GOP Civil War Looms

As the Associated Press reports, all this bipartisan happy talk about “Grand Bargains” and “backup plans” is meeting a stone wall called the “Tea Party”–and freshmen members of Congress elected in the 2010 Republican wave are trapped between their unrealistic promises to an unreasonable fringe, and the inevitable failure to fulfill them: Solid backing of […]

Ex-LCRP chair surrenders on felony warrant

(We’ve seen worse mug shots. – promoted by Colorado Pols) Bob Moore informs us that Larry Carillo, former Larimer County Republican Party chairman, has surrendered on a felony warrant issued by the Weld County DA’s office earlier this week. Former Larimer County Republican Party Chairman Larry Carillo is free on $10,000 bond after turning himself […]

Paul Ryan Radioactive to Republicans

The Republican budget plan drafted by Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan has created a — yes, we’ll say it — shitstorm of problems for Republicans around the country because of a key component that would dramatically change Medicare. Here in Colorado, freshman Rep. Cory Gardner has been furiously trying to spin the Medicare piece of “The […]

Misrepresentin’ The “Ryan Plan” With Cory Gardner

A fascinating story from the Loveland Reporter-Herald’s Alicia Stice: responding to criticism of Rep. Cory Gardner’s vote for the “Ryan Plan” 2012 budget, a textbook deception: A group of about 50 people gathered Thursday outside of U.S. Rep. Cory Gardner’s Fort Collins office to protest his recent vote for a budget proposal that would make […]

Senate Rejects Ryan Budget, Medicare Overhaul

From Politico: With five Republicans joining Democrats in opposition, the Senate easily rejected a House-passed budget plan Wednesday calling for deep cuts in domestic appropriations and major restructuring of Medicare, the government-backed healthcare program for the elderly. The 57-40 roll call proved more for show than substance but still stung for GOP leaders, coming less […]

Welcome Hancock Evolution Hit Piece Recipients!

The video you’re looking for is here. FOX 31’s Eli Stokols reports on that postcard you got:

Arriving in voters’ mailboxes this week, along with their ballots for the June 7 runoff, is the attack Michael Hancock’s campaign had been bracing for — a mailer highlighting the mayoral candidate’s missteps on questions of science and evolution.

The mailer isn’t coming from Chris Romer’s campaign, but a political action committee.

On one side of the glossy flier, from a group called “Citizens for Accountability”, it shows a dinosaur skeleton alongside the words: “Don’t let science become extinct in Denver Public Schools.”

…Copies of the mailer were also available at a debate Monday night, although it wasn’t clear who brought them.

At that debate, Hancock acknowledged making mistakes on multiple questions related to evolution but said it’s wrong for Romer to continue “playing politics” with them in light of his answers clarifying his beliefs.

Shorter Michael Hancock: “any ad quoting what I said about evolution is a falsehood.”

Folks, if our likening of the response of Hancock to his multiple pro-creationism gaffes with Republican running punchline Newt Gingrich’s “Ryan Plan” foibles upsets you, maybe rankles your progressive tail feathers and fires you up to start a fresh flamewar over it–which you’re free to do in our forum, make no mistake–we certainly do understand. All we ask before you launch into the latest tirade about our evident bias, cronyism, and “fascist handmaidenship,” is that you first honestly answer one very simple and straightforward question.

Would you be trying so hard to rationalize this if a Republican had said it?

State GOP Chair allegedly told El Paso GOP Secretary she should “strongly consider” resignation

(This is getting good, folks – promoted by Colorado Pols) UPDATE: Ryan Call, Chairman of the Colorado Republican Party, responded to my request for a comment on the topic of this blog post. His response, in its entirety, follows. _______________ You know a talk radio show is hitting its stride when it starts breaking news […]
