Tancredo calls Obama a “cult leader” — talk about projection!

( – promoted by Colorado Pols) In Tom Trancredo’s world, everything is viewed through the prism of illegal immigration. He certainly has his share of strident supporters, but nothing approaching the critical mass necessary to keep him on the national stage. He clearly doesn’t have a clue why Obama got elected–the best he can do […]

Udall Calls For Federal Hate Crimes Law Expansion

In a guest column for the Boulder Daily Camera today, Sen. Mark Udall writes in support of expanding federal hate crimes definitions to include segments of the GLBT community–timely with the first such trial under Colorado’s expanded law about to kick off: I was elected to Congress a month after Matthew [Shepard’s] murder. And for […]

More are openly calling Congressional Dems and Obama ‘Communists’ and ‘socialists’

The backlash is mounting and the Dems’ popularity is ebbing. Problem is that a recent poll shows only 53% of Americans prefer capitalism to socialism. The poll didn’t reveal how many Americans know the difference between capitalism, socialism and Communism. I’d say, maybe 20%. In any event, how long will it before it will be […]

Call for Scott “McLobbyist” McInnis to keep his commitment

(Isn’t this why he didn’t run for Senate? – promoted by Colorado Pols) This past weekend ex-Congressman Scott McInnis, now a lawyer-lobbyist, announced at a Republican party meeting that he plans to run for Governor in 2010. (“McInnis tells pals: “I’m in” governor race,” Denver Post, 3/22/2009) The last time McInnis was in the papers […]

Senate Republicans Waxing, and Waxing and Waxing Philisophically

The Senate Republicans go to the podium on just about every significant bill and challenge it as a threat to the people’s pocketbook, to marriage, to the American way of life, to motherhood and apple pie, etc….They do this, not just briefly, but ad nauseum on issues they cannot hope to win, and on which […]

Golden Recall Effort Fails

As The Golden Transcript reports:

The movement to recall six sitting city council members including the mayor fell short on Monday, Feb. 23 when recall organizers failed to turn in any documentation by the 5 p.m. deadline…

…Petitions to recall Smith, and council members Karen Oxman, Joe Behm, Diane Chesbro, Bill Fisher and Marjorie Sloan were filed with the City Clerk’s office in December. The petitions claimed council had been fiscally irresponsible, lacked civility and improperly convened executive sessions.

Ward One Councilwoman Mary Weaver was the only sitting council member not recalled.

Recall organizers then had 60 days to collect enough signatures to force a special election with an estimated cost of $50,000.

“I’m glad the citizens of Golden recognize that the recall petitions are intended for serious breaches of the public’s trust, not for petty disagreements about city policy decisions” said City Manager Mike Bestor.

Phone calls made to two recall supporters were not returned, A third recall supporter declined to comment.

This is good news for many reasons, not the least that the city won’t have to spend unnecessary money for a recall election when a general election will be held in November anyway. There was no real reason for the recall effort aside from the personal gripes of a small minority.

Golden Recall Attempt FAILS

If you live in Golden, you know the author of the Voice of Golden likes to tout her political views in the guise of news.  The author recently tried to recall most of the Golden City Council, but failed to turn in enough signatures.

From Golden Mayor Jacob Smith’s website:

Recall Attempt Fails

February 23, 2009 by Jacob Smith

I am please to report that the petitioners seeking to recall six of seven members of the Golden City Council failed today to submit the necessary signatures.

This recall attempt failed because so many in the community opposed it: refusing to sign the recall petitions, adding their names to the list of Citizens for Golden supporters, volunteering to make phone calls or walk door-to-door, making financial contributions in support of the effort.  Opposition to the recall attempt has been incredibly broad and energetic, spanning across the entire community.

Citizens for Golden, the community group that organized the opposition to the recall attempt, deserve a HUGE amount of credit.

I offer my sincere gratitude to everyone who expressed their support or otherwise contributed.  We’ve still got plenty of work to do but we can move forward now without the expense, distraction, and divisiveness of a recall election.  For our part on the City Council, we will continue our focus on open government and making sure the citizens of Golden have a voice, maintaining the City’s financial health, and protecting our quality of life.

Calling Shawn Mitchell’s Bluff?

A very interesting maneuver by the Dems, as the Denver Post reports: A bill that would make it easier for unwed couples to plan their estates and share benefits in times of tragedy is certain to touch off a gay-rights debate at the Capitol. Unwed couples can already designate each other as emergency decision makers, […]

Recall in the works for GarCo Commissar Martin? w/poll

( – promoted by Colorado Pols) Last week ColoradoPols front-paged their diary on the attempt by Commissar John Martin to stifle an equal elected official in Garfield County through a gag order. Martin squeaked by in his last election by less than 2% of the vote after outside groups (funded by the oil and gas […]

Obama’s hand open … calls for partnership

I have waited all day for a diary on President Obama’s first interview. The President’s skills demonstrated his clear resolve to redefine the situation and move forward to peaceful positions. I congratulate this first effort and hope it will lead to peace. http://abcnews.go.com/video/pl… On the rhetoric about him by Ayman al-Zawahiri and Osama bin Laden: […]
