Bruce Practically Begging For A Fight

( – promoted by Colorado Pols) Doug Bruce better batten down the hatches, secure the airlocks, and find himself a pair of shinguards because there is little doubt that his playground spitting, sand-kicking days may well be numbered… “It does not help the conservative Republican image to have someone acting in this childish manner,” said […]

GOP Condemns Bruce; Could Rayburn Challenge?

UPDATE: The House today voted to create a special committee to investigate the Bruce kick. Meanwhile, Bruce is now denying that he even kicked the reporter, despite the fact that it’s on tape. Republicans in the state house criticized fellow Republican Rep. Doug Bruce for yesterday’s kicking incident. As the Rocky Mountain News reports: House […]

Will Bruce Get Sued?

If you’re reading this blog today, you no doubt have heard that Republican Rep. Doug Bruce kicked some ass knee down at the state legislature today…literally. As State 38 reports, Bruce is not protected from a lawsuit because he wasn’t technically a legislator when he kicked a photographer: it’s unclear whether or not Temple will […]

Bruce Goes on the Attack…Literally

UPDATE #4: Liberal group Progress Now calls on GOP leadership to condemn Bruce “assault.” Director Mike Huttner asks, “What is this, ‘Republicans Gone Wild?’” Release below. UPDATE #3: Bruce demands an apology from the photographer he kicked (Yes, you read that correctly). UPDATE #2: CBS4Denver has video of Bruce’s kick. UPDATE: Colorado Pols has the […]

5th CD R’s repudiate Lamborn’s supporters. Williams walks.CFG next? Doug to petition on ’08 ballot?

In 2006, Doug Lamborn won the Republican primary with a less-than-overwhelming 27 percent of the vote.  Since taking office in 2007, his impotence in local Republican party politics has been demonstrated by one major setback after another in Republican county politics in all the counties comprising the Congressional 5th CD.  Doug Lamborn’s candidate for the […]

Doug Lamborn and Bill Sali, the Club for Growth’s Bobbsey Twins’ failing campaigns-USA Today

The 10/26/06 USA Today online reports  prominently on the Club for Growth’s connections to the failing campaigns for Doug Lamborn in Colorado and Bill Sali in Idaho in its article, “ONCE-SAFE BETS in GOP country PICK UP A BIT OF RISK,” http://www.usatoday…. Keep the dollars invested in mind that the Club for Growth has at […]

Bruce Joins Caldara on the Wrong Side of the Law?

Yesterday I received an 8×17 two color bifold brochure against C&D put together by a group called Active Citizens Together.  Many of you have probably seen the brochure already.  As a registered Democrat, I must be low on their mailing list.  The front of the brochure is a graphic with many words, highlighting the main […]

Bad Idea, Made Even Worse

As the Denver Post reports:

A initiative on the November ballot aims to toughen Denver’s impound ordinance, guaranteeing that people caught driving without a license will end up paying a $2,500 bond to get the car out of the impound lot, even if a valid license is sitting at home on the counter…

The Denver vehicle impound law that voters passed last year was designed to keep unlicensed drivers off the road. It gives police officers the ability to use their discretion about whether to impound a car.

If this new initiative passes in November, police officers will be required to impound the car of every driver without a license.

City Council member Doug Linkhart said that city impound lots are overflowing with vehicles of people who cannot afford to get them out…

Linkhart said that Denver police officers are opposed to the law and the initiative.

“Their job, by definition, is discretion,” Linkhart said.

What this really comes back to is illegal immigrant hysterics, of course, but it’s still unusual to see this plainly counterproductive a measure make the ballot. Peter Boyles and half a dozen Minuteman crackpots may think this is a good idea, the rest of us have left our wallet on the counter enough times to know better. A measure drafted totally ignorant of its effects–the way only real crazies can draft them. Doug Bruce, call him what you will, knew what he was doing.

Between this overkill nonsense and Craig Silverman calling for people who “look like a Muslim” to have their “puchases tracked,” we think some serious getting of a grip is in order, folks.

Colorado GOP: No On Prop HH Or The Terrorists Literally Win

After several days of controversy over newly-appointed Democratic Rep. Tim Hernandez’s initial refusal to condemn violence perpetrated by Hamas against Israeli civilians at a pro-Palestinian rally a week ago last Saturday, Hernandez offered what’s generally been accepted as a thoughtful and sincere apology acknowledging the pain his omission of Israeli suffering had caused and promising […]
