Fun With Press Releases: Pat Quinn Edition

  • by: Colorado Pols

We updated The Big Line yesterday, which reminded us that we had forgotten to mention a press release we received on Friday from Democrat Pat Quinn's campaign for State Treasurer. Buried at the bottom of the release, ostensibly about Quinn making the obligatory "64 county state tour," is the mention that he didn't raise much money in Q3:

Pat Quinn began the “Leadership Begins with Listening Tour” in August and will visit the last 7 of Colorado’s 64 counties on October 30th and 31st with a swing through Northeast Colorado.  Quinn raised over $33,000 over three months to support his campaign efforts.  “My campaign will have adequate resources to get my positive message to the people of Colorado as the campaign moves forward.”

If you feel the need to mention, unprompted, that your campaign "will have adequate resources," it's a pretty good sign that your campaign is in trouble of not having "adequate resources." If Quinn could only raise $33,000 in his first quarter — a time when you should be grabbing all of the low-hanging fruit in your rolodex — then he should probably start thinking about where this is really going to end up. Unless Quinn can (and will) self-fund his campaign, he's going to have trouble just maintaining the cash flow to keep things moving forward, nevermind saving up enough money for a serious ad buy.

Full press release after the jump.

Quinn in Home Stretch of 64 County

Leadership Begins with Listening Tour

Broomfield, Colorado. Pat Quinn, Mayor of Broomfield and candidate for State Treasurer, will have visited 57 of Colorado’s 64 counties by Saturday October 5, 2013 as part of Quinn’s “Leadership Begins with Listening Tour”.  For photos and accounts from stops along the tour visit www.facebook.com/PatQuinnForTreasurer

“While many candidates were holed up in their offices dialing for dollars, I have been traveling the state talking to Coloradans about their current challenges and their hopes for Colorado’s future,” stated Quinn. “From one corner of the state to the other, the concerns are the same: how to create and maintain sustainable economies that create jobs, balancing oil and gas production with environmental protection, managing transparency and fiscal responsibility at all levels of government, and maintaining quality public education.”

“My positive message of the successes we have enjoyed in Broomfield resonates with people all over Colorado.  Since 2007 Broomfield’s debt has been reduced by 25% and we continue to attract primary employers like DigitalGlobe who announced last month it will move its international headquarters to Broomfield with 1,700 high tech jobs,” continued Quinn.
