It’s eerily quiet out there for the middle of August.
In previous years, August was a month for politicians to engage with the citizens they represent back home at public town hall events. That’s changed since Republicans took control of Congress, and last year you may recall that persuading Sen. Cory Gardner to come out of hiding and hold town halls was a huge controversy.
Cory Gardner hasn’t held a town hall since November of 2017. This August, Mike Coffman is specializing in short-notice PR stunts that leave no room for real interaction at all.
And why, you ask? It’s because November is coming and they’re afraid of accountability. Nobody wants to answer for what Trump and the far right have done in Washington, but that day is coming. It’s that simple. We’re continuing to keep an eye out for public events around the state you can participate in, because Gardner, Coffman, and their friends have to come out of hiding sometime.
In the meantime, here are plenty of great ways to take action for the week of August 20:
Featured Event: Unite for Justice | Denver #StopKavanaugh
On August 26, join us on the West Steps of the Colorado Capitol as we stand in solidarity with folks all across the country to demand that the U.S. Senate stop Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination for a lifelong appointment to the Supreme Court.

Medicaid Town Hall hosted by CCDC, CCHI and CCLP

2018 Poor People’s Assembly
Join the Colorado Poor People’s Campaign to mobilize and fight the evils of systemic racism, poverty, the war economy, ecological devastation and the nation’s distorted morality! In alignment with a national call to action, we are convening in the Civic Center Park amphitheater to continue to organize around the call for a moral revival.

One Colorado: The 2018 Ally Awards!
One Colorado Education Fund will host its signature fundraising event — The Ally Awards — on August 25, 2018 at the Four Seasons Hotel Denver. The evening will culminate in an awards presentation to allies who work to advance equality and make a substantive difference in the lives of LGBTQ Coloradans. The evening will kick off with a cocktail party on the pool terrace of the Four Seasons with a hosted bar, and heavy passed/stationed hors d’oeuvres. Guests will then move to the Four Seasons ballroom and attendees will enjoy an awards ceremony with special guest speakers, delectable desserts, and champagne.
