Gay-rights groups have raised more than twice as much money as their opponents in the fight over four ballot measures regarding gay rights this fall. From the Rocky Mountain News:
The pro-gay camp, Coloradans for Fairness and Equality, has raised more than twice that of its opponents, taking in $229,618 since January, according to campaign reports filed with the Colorado secretary of state. The Gill Action Fund, Gill’s political spending arm, has given $179,000 to that campaign, including a $50,000 donation May 10. Gill Action gave $55,000 on March 8 and $74,000 on April 25, records show.
Meanwhile, the coalition of Christian groups sponsoring a state constitutional amendment defining marriage as a heterosexual union has raised $101,628 in the past six months. The U.S. Senate this week is debating a similar measure that would apply nationwide.
Focus on the Family, a member of Coloradans for Marriage, has given $55,000 to the Colorado campaign, including a $20,000 donation May 22. New Life Church, led by the Rev. Ted Haggard, who also heads the National Association of Evangelicals, has given $12,000 to that campaign.

Tim Gill has had the integrity and cojones to sell his business and then invest his money and energy in a cause that is both morally right and legally necessary. I challenge Will Perkins to do the same thing: sell your car dealership and sink the money into your marriage amendment campaign. That’s morally less offensive than relying about a bunch of hypocritical right wing preachers who raise money by shaking down a bunch of fool who give on Sunday mornings because they’re threatened w/ eternal damnation.
How can a so-called “church” donate money to a political campaign and retain its tax exempt status?
Which church is that?
I think because it is an “issue” versus a “political” campaign. Like Ref C & D, since it is an issue campaign, 501(3)Cs’can advocate for it without endangering their non-profit status.
I’m not looking forward to the attack ads against Tinky Winky.
This should be an interesting next few months. Daddy (beat the crap out of your son so he knows better then to tell you anything) dobson is not flush with money anymore. If he dumps in enough money, Tim Gill Action Fund might acquire the property in the Springs, cheap.
