Remember when a state house or state senate race was a relatively simple thing? Those days are gone, with the biggest seats in the state attracting big money from both sides. The political group Clear Peak Colorado is set to begin running television ads attacking Republican Rep. Matt Knoedler, who is running against Democratic Sen. Betty Boyd in SD-21, for a vote on illegal immigration during the special legislative session.

Clear Peak Colorado has begun running television ads that highlight Representative Matt Knoedler’s votes against Colorado’s groundbreaking immigration reform package passed during the 2006 Special Session in July.
“The legislature, with the support of Governor Owens, passed the toughest immigration reform package in the country and Knoedler consistently opposed this package,” said Clear Peak director Tim Knaus. “Our ads are aimed at making Coloradans aware of Representative Knoedler’s opposition to immigration reform and to why Knoedler went against his party and his Governor.”
Colorado Democrats tackled the immigration issue head on during the Special Session and achieved success in bringing the toughest immigration reform in the country to Colorado. Their efforts have received accolades from diverse corners of the state, including Republican Governor Bill Owens.
“Democratic legislators and Governor Owens did what Republican legislators like Representative Knoedler couldn’t do, set aside partisan interests to get results,” continued Knaus. “Rather than vote to enact serious reform, Knoedler chose to engage in obstructionist partisan politics. Our ads convey to Coloradans the negative consequences of bringing overt partisanship to a vitally important issue like immigration reform.”
The Clear Peak radio advertisements will run in select markets across Colorado.

$400 says that Trailhead will also spend a bunch of money in this race — I’m guessing it’s their top targeted State Senate race. Here’s why:
-Boyd is the Senate’s champion of reproductive rights as well as an all-around effective legislator.
-Control of the Senate is up for grabs and from a reproductive rights point of view, this seat is particularly important if Ritter wins — the Democrats will want to keep control of the Senate plus have really strong women’s health advocates in there to ensure no anti-choice legislation gets to the governor’s desk.
Trailhead has already upset most of the U voters in this senate district. Some say, that the 527 was coordinating with the GOP (specifically Rachel Sunbarger) with targetting mailing and phone lists for Unaffiliateds, who were lambasted by robo-calls and crappy mail pieces.
Instead of exciting the voters about their candidate, they made fools of themselves. Whoever is running that show (be is Gov. Owens or Alan Philip) is digging a hole faster than BWB.
I thought Rep. Tancredo spoke ill of the special session. So won’t this help align Knoedler with Tancredo?
Does anyone know how Rep. Tancredo performed in SD21 in 2004?
BWB was the candidate two years ago as SD 21 is in the 7th CD.
How is Rep. Tancredo viewed across district lines?
How big of an issue is immigration In SD21?
