Republican Wants to Sterilize Parents of ‘Bad’ Children
“What we’ve got is a failure in society, whether it’s in Mount Pleasant with yuppie parents or whether it’s on the East Side with poor crackhead parents,” Shirley said Friday. “We pick up stray animals and spay them. These mothers need to be spayed if they can’t take care of theirs. … Once they have a child and it’s running the streets, to let them continue to have children is totally unacceptable.” Deadbeat dads might ought to be sterilized as well, he said.

What if…
…people who receiving government assistance (TANF) were also required to receive birth control (implants or injections for women, a pill for men)?
Let me give you some background.
In another life I worked with TANF recipients, helping them to learn work skills to stay on the job. I had a good program, yet the number of children the mothers had with little or no father support almost guaranteed that the mothers would not be employable. Many I taught were in the class, pregnant, with more than two children at home? What is the likelihood of a girl with three children, on TANF, developing the life skills necessary to be successful in a work situation. It happens, yet the barriers are often insurmountable.
So, one possible solution, if you are receiving government assistance, you are on birth control. Men would have to also take the male pill.
We limit who is able to drive, vote, fight, drink, study; almost all aspects of our lives have laws affecting them – so why couldn’t we tell people who wish to break the cycle they’re in that they can’t have more children until they have the parenting skills to do so.
