  1. It’s a continuing sprint to irrelevance.  Terrible choice.  The woman has no media presence and no constituency to speak of.  This ticket is so dead it reminds one of what Dorothy Parker said when told that Calvin Coolidge had died: “How can you tell?”

  2. Holtzman is having a hard time getting positive news.  Today’s story in the post – money from Dem’s and now a running mate that no one knows.  Whoopie.

  3. Holtzman is having a hard time getting positive news.  Today’s story in the post – money from Dem’s and now a running mate that no one knows.  Whoopie.

  4. But Lola smiled and took me by the hand
And said dear boy I?m gonna make you a man

Well I?m not the world?s most masculine man
    But I know what I am and I?m glad I?m a man

  5. Wow, guess the rumors were true.
You know Lola wasn’t supposed to win in her district, it was “too rural to elect a woman”… Same problem Musgrave had with the 4th…
Because of the growing influence of Pueblo on her district, she was never supposed to hold that seat for long.
When she went against what was left of the “House Crazies” on a couple bills, her future in the Colorado GOP was supposed to “be over”. Of course then she was elected Speaker of the House…
Then as a term limited “lame duck” she push through one of the most sweeping energy bills in our state’s history… Not in the back room by the way but by popular referendum. When Lola speaks the people of Colorado vote her way. (OK, maybe that one was too smarmy.)
I find it not at all remarkable that Holtzman picked her. Given her record, who wouldn’t. It’s more interesting that she picked Marc.
I don’t think Hick is getting in… Now I’m pretty sure Beauprez will lose… That leaves Ritter, and his own party doesn’t think he can win.
It’s not over, but it might as well be. The next LT Gov of Colorado is named Lola Spradley.

  6. So do you think Beauprez has called Hastert and O’Donnell yet to ask if he can keep his current job?
“Hi Denny! How are you buddy? …
Yeah too bad about the Redskins huh? I lost $1000 on that game… Oh you mean the Broncos… Did they do something in the post-season? After the Skins lost I didn’t even pay attetion…
So if we were to find a job for Rick, do you think I could…”
    Ha, ha!

  7. “Iron Mike” returns! Holtzman’s winter interns have been a little slow getting started…

Look, no doubt Speaker Spradley is a lovely lady. But just to set the record straight, she made it clear to both candidates that the price of her endorsement was the LG job. And she wasn’t subtle either, apparently. Holtzman really didn’t have a choice. The guy needs some good press.

So the real question of the day is, who will Beauprez pick? Lynn Hefley keeps coming up, and you’ve got to admit, a Beauprez/Hefley ticket would be solid in the Springs. Coffman is also a possibility, and his credentials in conservative circles alone would drown all of Seymour Holtzman’s millions.

I would submit one other name that hasn’t come up too often, but probably should be… How about Bob Schaffer? He was one of the first to endorse Beauprez and is wildly popular with conservatives. Having lived up to his term-limit pledge in Congress, he knows the state government and would be a huge asset to Beauprez in that role.

    Any thoughts?

  8. “The next LT Gov of Colorado is named Lola Spradley.”

It does look like Iron Mike and Rock 5 have pulled out and began firing up the old “Holtzman for Governor” bong again. I guess it’s legal now in the rogue city anyway…

Aerosmith cancelled their Pepsi Center show guys but I am glad you two can still dream on.  Keep the faith!  Take back the party!  It’s a revolution!

  9. Schaffer is an interesting thought, Ticket, but I am not sure he could make it on lt. gov. pay.  The last I knew, lt. gov paid $68 K.
And Mr. Presiden…err, I mean, Iron Mike, good to see you back in the cpols wars.  This nonesense of earning a living can definitely cut into blogging time!

  11. That’s no bong officer… It’s a sculpture!

Interesting names for Beauprez running mate…
Schaffer for LTGov… Didn’t he do that one already? Set him up nicely for a run for Congress.
Coffman? I can’t say how I know this, but you need to put down the bong… Ain’t gonna happen.
    Why didn’t you mention Gigi?
    Lynn? Probably.

  12. So Holtzman has a running mate along with Ritter. Hick is finally getting in the race.. Well maybe… It depends… Maybe not yet… Or at all.
In the mean time all Beauprez can do is bitch about how mean and divisive Holtzman is being. He must mean Marc is being mean and divisive to Hick… That’s all I’ve heard him say.
It’s coming time for Beauprez to do the right thing, quit wasting Republican money, and go back to the 7th CD.

BTW Voyageur, need to do that work thang yo? Wife and kids get pissed when I don’t pay the rent and we have to “go camping”.

  13. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Lola is an obscure Rep., Rasmussen Reports is an obscure bogus polling agency, the most prominent GOP bloggers in the state are all obscure…

The Beauprez camp’s smears have gotten so predictable, it’s hard to take them seriously.

  14. “The Beauprez camp’s smears have gotten so predictable, it’s hard to take them seriously.

I knew Governor Owens posted on this site… I just didn’t expect him to sign as himself.

  15. News for the BB Team: Schaffer will not be your Lt. Gov pick. He already ran for that – and already had that “deal” offered to him in ’04. Guess what… he’s happy where he is, and by trying to float his name, you guys just look more desperate.

Mike Coffman will not by your Lt. Gov pick, either. He dislikes Both Ways Bob to the core, and will refuse to be a second in command to anyone. Furthermore – you also tick HIM off by trying to float his name, because you really are just hurting his fundraising when you do that. CLUE: don’t mess with Mike’s fundraising. It’ll end badly for you.

Go ahead a pick Lynn Hefley. Her record is an abomination… she’s more moderate than Steve Johnson… and she’ll be a great “do-girl” for Bob.

Better yet – pick Gigi. That will certainly help shore up Pueblo and the South East corner… wait… might be too late for that…

Oh – here’s one… why don’t you ask John Andrews. That would work.

In either event, I happen to feel very confident saying this; Bob will NEVER pick someone who’s to the Right of him. He doesn’t believe anyone who’s more conservative than he is can be elected. So going after Holtzman for “balancing the ticket” is hypocritical and, in the end, will really just open up that “both ways” thing again. You know what I mean? Of course you do.

  16. “Coffman is also a possibility, and his credentials in conservative circles alone would drown all of Seymour Holtzman’s millions.”

You’re right, Mike Coffman is the most likely possibility for Beauprez’s running mate.

I have a feeling everyone might want to hold back donating to Coffman’s SoS campaign for just a few more weeks, you’ll soon be able to help get him elected by donating directly to Bob Beauprez!

  17. Mike has the conservative credentials to shore up the base, he brings the conservative political clout that Beauprez, Owens and Bruce Benson don’t have.

  18. Actually Mike Coffman is going to make a great Governor…
He is my bet for 2014.
For all of you big fans of Coffman out there, don’t forget it was Beauprez, Owens and Benson who kicked him out of the race for Governor. If you think that Coffman has forgotten that during his Iraqi soujourn, you are an idiot.

  19. I wouldn’t speak so fast, a source of mine well connected to a certain campaign told me a few weeks ago that some Republican heavy hitters were trying to convince Coffman to run for Lt. Governor.

Doesn’t it seem like Coffman would have denied it if it weren’t true and was hurting his fundraising? The truth of the matter is that Coffman is already signed on and his impending announcement will clear the field and get Bob Beaupre elected in ’06!

  20. Coffman can’t campaign while activated. That simple. He’s not going to even discuss this issue with the BB trio, and he doesn’t want it, anyway. Your “source” is trying to float a rumor and you’re an idiot for believing it.

  21. Maybe “Source” is just confused and it isn’t Mike Coffman but Cynthia Coffman (nee Hossinger) who will be Beauprez’s pick.
It was the deal to keep Suthers from running for Governor.

By the way I have a bridge back East to sell… Any takers?

  22. The real Coffman supporters are getting behind Beauprez, because that’s who Mike has endorsed for governor. Period. They’re both solid conservatives, they both know what it takes to win, and they would make a great team in the state Capitol. Whether Mike Coffman is Bob Beauprez’s running mate or the Secretary of State, he’s going to continue to be a force in Colorado politics.

  23. Are you sure about that? Sounds like you’re uncertain… I haven’t seen a single piece of mail from Mike since he left for Iraq except his own campaign lit… Seems to me he has backed off from his endorsement quite a bit.
As a matter of fact a few of us have gotten the clue that it is okay for us to support Holtzman.
But keep up that wishful thinking.

  24. The only thing I’m uncertain about is why in the world would someone who supports Mike Coffman want to support a moderate like Holtzman? I mean, Holtzman’s entire campaign has been Howard Dean lite!

  25. Wow, you need to get out more.
I’m a big Coffman fan and Holtzman is conservative enough for me. Last summer he really stepped up to the plate and showed that he is willing to stand up and fight for his believes. Beauprez would mumble under his breath at inimate gatherings “I’m against C&D you know”.
Beauprez’s as a conservative is like a prostitute who encourages virginity. It’s not about what you say as much as it is about what you do. Both Ways Bob hasn’t been there for the conservatives of this state. He’s had six years? (since being elected party chair)… and yet he hides in the tall grass when he needs to make a tough decision.

  27. Hugo’s right. Remember, Coffman is on active duty and he takes his responsibilities to stay out of politics VERY seriously in that role.  Not to mention that 16 hour days don’t leave a lot of time for sticking your head in a meatgrinder.  Coffman’s campaign just released a new list of supporters for his SOS campaign today, and that doesn’t look like he’s backing out.  I would love to see him as Lt Gov., but that would mean hitching his wagon to Beauprez’s star.  Right now, the brutal infighting between Richie Rich and Both Ways Bob would leave either contender the underdog against Ritter or, God help the GOP, Hickenlooper.  As SOS, Mike at least wins or loses on his own merits.  One possible compromise is that BB puts Gigi on his ticket, opening the way for Mike to run unopposed for SOS nomination.
