Turner Withdraws from State Treasurer Race

  • by: Colorado Pols

According to Dem Notes, Democrat John Turner has withdrawn from the state treasurer’s race and thrown his support behind Democrat Cary Kennedy:

I believe it is counterproductive to enter into a primary which would only divide the support, money, and vote when the real goal is to win the State Treasurers Office for us Democrats. In addition, a primary would only weaken both of us, squander money that needs to be conserved to take on the Republicans in the General Election, and make it easier for the Republicans to hold on to that office. Therefore, because I believe in the good of the Party, the State, and the importance of us winning this office, I am throwing my support to Cary Kennedy. I ask each of you to help her and work to make her the next State Treasurer in Colorado. I intend to work with her to help her achieve this goal.

Turner didn’t have much of a chance in a primary against Kennedy, so it’s a good move for him all the way around to pull out and support the Democratic favorite.

  1. How is she the better choice? Turner had a frickin PhD in economics. I have to admit I am disappointed that Turner stepped aside for the teacher’s union choice. Now, Hillman beats Cary on qualifications. It wasn’t that way with Turner. Maybe all of our statewide candidates could come from Denver…oh wait, thay already are.

  2. The technical term for Hillman, PR, is the “former-pseudo incumbent.”  Don’t forget, he’s promised to step down then Coffman comes back from Iraq in April.  Hillman will thus run as the former acting treasurer, an even weaker position than that of an appointed incumbent.  That’s not to dismiss Mark’s political skills, which are formidable.  But it is a damned awkward position to be in.

  3. AuroraDem:

“Now, Hillman beats Cary on qualifications.”  What?  Does Hillman even have a college degree?  How could he possibly have more qualifications that the person who wrote the C&D compromise, Amendment 23, and she has more experience with Colorado’s cash flow than Hillman.

Kennedy is going to beat Hillman.  Not by much, but she’ll beat him.

  4. Come on, Hillman opposed fixing the biggest problem facing the state, and votes against the state budget.  Doesn’t that make him qualified to manage the states finances?????
