AFSCME Backs Fitz-Gerald

  • by: Colorado Pols

The labor union AFSCME has endorsed Senate President Joan Fitz-Gerald as a candidate for congress in CD-2. Fitz-Gerald is likely to pick up the support of organized labor across the board over Democratic contenders Jared Polis and Will Shafroth.

    1. And when you do, please refer to Colorado Pols’ code of conduct:

      2. Attempts to float a negative rumor about a candidate or campaign are absolutely not permitted. If you write, “Joe Smith is having an affair with his neighbor,” then you had better have the proof to back it up. Otherwise, your comment or diary will be promptly removed. Anyone who continually attempts to do this will have their account disabled.

      I’ll wait here.

    2.   What dirt has Joan’s husband acquired and when exactly did he soil himself with it?
Joan’s been through a number of serious races, including a hotly contested state senate race in 2000, and a Congressional race against Dan Schaffer in the ’90’s.  No mention of her husband having any dirty laundry then.
Is this “dirt” to which you refer something recent?

  1. (I do.)  But really, the endorsement that actually counts here is that of all the people who vote in CD-2.

Joan F-G’s getting that one, too.

  2. Unions have been very supportive of Fitz-Gerald.  They know where she stands on their issues – she has a long track record.

Shafroth and Polis are unknown (and perhaps unreliable) quantities from their stand point.

Also, other than Jared’s money, he brings little to the table in terms of getting elected out of CD2.  There is a higher liklihood that Joan will get elected than that either of the other two will be.  If all three are on the primary ballot, Polis and Shafroth with split the same support and Joan will come out on top.

Joan will also have Emily’s list and in this situation that can be formidable.

    1. Jared’s money, he brings little to the table in terms of getting elected out of CD2?

You have got to be kidding!  His work with school issues, his past work with the school board and other causes in Colorado make him a good choice. The #41 thing really is not on the average people’s radar.

Jared has a lot of pull with number of groups to keep them out of the race.  Labor in the district makes up a very small part of the voting block and Denver Labor right now is all in a pissing match with the DNC and not focused on the elections as they should be.

  3. Every time this race is mentioned someone writes in claiming that the dirt about Joan Fitz-Gerald’s husband is going to come out. Today the denominatior or the deminator said that the dirt on Mr. Fitz-Gerald will be coming out soon.
    What are they talking about?

    1. I hate to repeat myself, but look up above:

        2. Attempts to float a negative rumor about a candidate or campaign are absolutely not permitted. If you write, “Joe Smith is having an affair with his neighbor,” then you had better have the proof to back it up. Otherwise, your comment or diary will be promptly removed. Chirp, chirp.

      1. Oscar,

Most of the stuff on here is rumor until the press or someone else can fact check it.  More than I have heard dirt about Joan’s Hubby.  I am sure it will come out in due time.

Relax with the rules there tiger

        1. Then why don’t you and “Something is Brewing” STFU since you have no actual information?

Oh lookie, you did it again!

You’re just trying to peddle rumors right now.  I didn’t write the site policy, sorry.

  4. What is this guy talking about? Is there anything to this or just a crazy rumor of no substance?
    Really
This early? I am sorry but this race is going to get real ulgy real fast. All of Joan’s dirty hubby is going to come out.

  5. It is irresponsible for Colorado Pols to publish, without substantiation, unspecified allegations against a family member of any candidate without revealing the identity of the accusing blogger. Colorado Pols has an obligation to nip this in the bud and confront the blogger rather than to let it snowball into character assasination.

Every candidate should run on his or her record. Joan Fitz-Gerald is the only candidate thus far with a voting record and service as an elected official. She has been under public scrutiny for over ten years. Somebody out there feels if you throw enough dirt and have enough money, you own the election process.

    1. You can tell none of you work in the field and are totally Joan supporters.  You are the ones who maul Jared for 41… not going after the voters who voted for it.  You say both Jared and Will both do not have a recored?  Record of voting sure but record of helping the community or Colorado’s wild life?  I think they have every right to run and knock Joan off here little golden chair. She is not that great….

  6. I don’t know or care what Joan’s husband did or did not do.  What’s important here is that AFSCME video is about the funniest damn thing I have ever seen.  Made my day.

  7. This is about deliberately assaulting the name and reputation of someone who is not in the public venue.

However,if Jared Polis is having problems about Amendment 41, it is because he avoided any advice from legislators such as Alice Madden, that 41 had the potential of unintended consequences. There are hundreds of bills before the state legislature and he is crying the loudest for his amendment to be “fixed.”
Research, deliberation, investigation, negotiation and assistance could have prevented the outcome of Amendment 41. Unfortunately, Jared did not display these qualities when supporting and funding his amendment. This lack of preparation and good judgement leads many to believe he would not be a viable Congressional candidate.

    1. So, let me get this straight. Saying Jared Polis has bad judgment and lacks important qualities is… running on Joan’s record? While someone vaguely saying something about Joan’s husband being “dirty” (whatever that means) is “character assassination” and “deliberately assaulting the name and reputation?”

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying I disagree with your thoughts about Jared. But these statements are certainly opinions as opposed to verifiable facts. Until I hear any actual “facts” that attack Joan or her husband, I don’t see how this is any different. You are both clearly partisan looking for ways to attack each other. So don’t act so high and mighty.

  8. Can someone tell me what the Deminator is talking about? Is there a problem with Joan Fitz-Gerald’s husband? Or, is it just some stupid rumor with nothing behind it?
Come on The Deminator what are you talking about?
