I wonder if Bailey has it in the bag for the run-off.
Clearly Hick’s mismanagement of the winter storms took it’s toll…
John Hickenlooper (NON) 58,517 87.6%
Danny Lopez (NON) 8,263 12.4%
Total: 66,780
🙂
roughly 2000 ballot so far have no vote for mayor on them.
The Council District with the fewest votes cast so far is the one with the most people running for Council in it: District 3.
Garcia v. nobody = no great options
“Nobody” is mighty tempting in a race like that…
The number of people who voted in District 6 (Charlie Brown running unopposed) was more than twice the number in District 3 where there were 6 candidates.
I think it’s time for Gallagher to announce his candidacy for mayor. Can I get an Amen!
Denver term limits are now set to 3 terms
Hell no.
No, let’s keep him as auditor.
The Hick definitely would have had fomidable opposition. He is the politically weakest Denver Mayor in a longtime.
From McNichols to Pena to Webb Denver’s Mayor has long been one of the state’s party leaders. Right now Hick is pretty far down the totem poll in the hierarchy Democratic party leaders. Furthermore the stalwarts of the Denver Democratic party don’t care much for him or his people.
He doesn’t have the confidence or ability to seek higher office. For all the hype that this guy has received he will be just a subpar two-term Mayor with no real accomplishments or legacy.
If somebody disagrees with my characterization as subpar please tell me what he has accomplished? When you think about Mayor Webb and what he accomplished you think about Downtown, Golden Triangle, Lower Platte Valley, Coors Field, DIA, Budget Surpluses, Denver Health, revitalization of Denver neighborhoods such as Highlands, Five Points, and LODO.
Hick had five goals that he announced when he was first elected. I think they were better place to live, better place to work, 25,0000 new jobs, and improved customer service. The streets are filled with potholes and homeless folks from all over North America, moral has never been lower with city employees, Denver has lost professional jobs but gain low-skilled positions such as dishwashers in restaurants, and citizens continue to be frustrated by the city’s permitting process.
…but your description of his popularity and standing within the party is at odds with everything else written about him….it’s also at odds with the fact that no formidable candidate opposed him this year
overestimates the importance of “the stalwarts of the Denver Democratic party.” The stalwarts (whoever they are) may have some ability to influence caucuses, but since Denver elections are non-partisan they really don’t have much say (else Hick wouldn’t have been elected the first time).
