Poll: Will Tancredo run again in CD-6? Decision due in less than 2 weeks

( – promoted by Colorado Pols)

Several months ago Tom Tancredo said that he’d decide in June whether he was going to run for re-election in Congressional District 6. Well, there are only two weeks left in June, and other potential Republican candidates such as Ted Harvey and Tom Wiens are undoubtedly feeling restless.

(Is there any Democratic sacrificial lamb for the solidly GOP CD-6 in 2008?)

Will Tancredo run again in 2008? Do you care?

Will Tancredo run for re-election in 2008?

    1. Broken term limits promise and broken rhetoric. He found his issue to remain in office; one which he’ll never to actually fix, but one that can and will give him an opporunity to run for several more offices in the future; perhaps Senate or the Governor’s office.

    2. Hey, the pay’s ok and the retirement benefits can’t be beat. The guy has decades of federal government service. A few more years in Congress and he’s set for life, if he isn’t already.

      1. Despite his missteps along the way, I think Tancredo has increased his credibility.

Illegal immigration—his issue—is the national issue. And a week ago his bill on immigration passed the House with a huge majority.

Not bad for a despised member of the minority, imho.

His critics will never rest, but in Tancredo’s district, they only make him more popular.

  1. He knows there’s no way he wins the presidency, and his ego is too large to permit him to get out of the limelight (were it not, he would have honored his term limit pledge).

    Oh yeah.  He runs again.

  2. Over the past few weeks I have begun to believe that Tancredo is looking to a career outside of congress (head Minuteman?)

He was already on the “fringe” to many Republicans and now that he is proposing to stop all immigration (legal and illegal) and go after any Republican that supports comprehensive reform, he moves even more to the fringe.

I think that he might be realizing that he can’t win the presidency, he hasn’t garnered enough attention (or money) to make a serious Senate run, and has been a failure as a Congressman (since his one issue is unresolved). After all of that, he may prefer to be the hero of Minutemen, the Constitution Party, etc.

and will they come alive in Colorado this election cycle ?

This platform looks tailor-made for El Paso Country, where the Republicans are in a civil war.
But County records show only 32 people are registered with this party.

      Start spreading the news …
      I’m leaving today.

If they can’t —- make it here,
they can’t make it —- anywhere.
      It’s up to you,
      New Port-in-the-Rockies, New Port-in-the-Rockies.

So, NO, I don’t think Congressman Tancredo gives up the national spotlight for that.

  3. The FCC will issue a Cease and Desist Order and sizeable fine against 630 KHOW Host Peter Boyles for violating the “Public Decency Laws” relating to Boyles repeatedly licking Tancredo’s ass on the air.

  4. If you believe his staff, Tom is running for re-election.
But, if you believe the buzz in the GOP, Tancredo is not going to run again. He will pull a Pat Buchanan (sp?… who cares!) and push his agenda all the way to the GOP National Convention, caving only at the last minute when the nominee promises him a cabinet position and/or CNN offers him a spot on Crossfire.
Then again, a lot of the folks I hear saying he won’t run again are some of Mike Norton’s “dear fiends”/entourage members.

    1. Education? He used to be a teacher, and had some sort of patronage position here in the Gipper years. And he doesn’t believe in evolution.

      Homeland Security? Yeah, that’ll happen.

Secretary of State? Get ready for World War III.

Of course, all of these assume a Republican 2008 presidential win…

  5. I hear he’s running for grand wizard of the KKK.  He has strong support amongst the rank and file.

aybe he will take his powerful intellect back to our public school system

  6. I think he joined the race in part, to have an out of congress.  I think after the election, he sets up some group regarding immigration, and spends his time making it a more prominent issue while making more money, and trying to play the “elder statesman” game

  7. I think/hope that he knew going into the presidential race that he wasn’t going to win – more of getting his issue more exposure or to scare off any other R’s from running (kind of like pounding his chest and growling).

It is probably to prove to his constituency that he is a good choice, that he’s a “contenda”, since almost any R would win in that district.
