We’ve heard from Perlmutter and Ritter regarding their Q3 fundraising but Lamm has been very silent. Does that fore tell poor numbers for Q3 for her?
That could depend on when the numbers are released. Any candidate who releases their figures late tomorrow afternoon is hoping they don’t get much attention.
The Republican Culture of Corruption is coming down, brick by brick.
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist was just issued a subpoena by the Securities and Exchange Commission to turn over his personal documents and records. Federal authorities are stepping up their investigation of his suspicious sales in July of HCA stock.
In particular, the investigation has accelerated because Frist apparently failed to disclose that some of his HCA holdings were not held in blind trusts, but directly in a stock partnership controlled by his brother.
We need to get past the crimes of DeLay and Frist, the two highest-ranking Republicans on Capitol Hill. There are more serious crimes to worry about. Like lying to the American people about why we were going to war with Iraq.
For a good laugh click here
Is that all you clowns can do, try to find some nit-picky financial thing to take down Republicans?
No wonder the Democrats got creamed in the last election at the national level.
Drop these useless investigations and start giving the American people a reason to vote for you, and not just against the other guy.
Nitpicky? Insider trading and white collar crime is sort of a big deal. Was Enron nitpicky? Frist makes Martha Stewart look like a saint.
Yes Nitpicky.
Until you have absolute proof of a crime that has been committed alledging that the Republican leadership is not only wrong but libelous.
You people are just looking for reasons to bring down Republican leaders. If they did something wrong, then they deserve what is coming to them, but not until it has been proven.
Why don’t you spend your time finding a good candidate, working with them and convince the American people why that person is better.
You are not going to win any elections on the starategy of trying to make the other guy be a bad guy. A vote not for the Republican does not mean a vote for a Democrat, usually it means a vote not cast at all.

percentage increases in discretionary domestic spending in the first five years of two-term presidents:
LBJ: 25.2%
Nixon: -16.5%
Reagan: 11.9%
Clinton: -8.2%
Bush: 35.2%
Raiders,
If you think possible insider trading by the Republican Senate Majority Leader is “some nit-picky financial thing,” then I think you need an ethics check.
Yes, I’d like to see Democrats take over from Republicans, and from that point of view I’m glad Frist and DeLay are on the other team, but I’m more worried about our government in general. I don’t support criminals, whether Republican or Democrat.
Until you have absolute proof of a crime that has been committed alledging that the Republican leadership is not only wrong but libelous.
Tell it to the Washington Post, please. I simply linked to their story. And “libel” has a specific legal definition that neither that article nor my quoting of it come anywhere close to meeting. Don’t try to silence people by alleging libel.
I fully agree with you that Democrats as a whole need to articulate a clearer message in order to sweep 2006. However, part of that message is obviously going to involve pointing out the pervasive corruption in government, which happens to be controlled everywhere by Republicans. “Throw the bums out” has worked well before, so I suggest you prepare for that theme being repeated ad nauseum for the next year.
“You are not going to win any elections on the starategy of trying to make the other guy be a bad guy.”
Agreed that the Dems will need a coherent and forceful message for next fall’s elections but there’s nothing wrong with laying seeds of doubt in the electorate about the comptency of the GOP. In fact, it appears to be working quite well…

“A vote not for the Republican does not mean a vote for a Democrat, usually it means a vote not cast at all.”
It appears that you are dead wrong on this point.
there’s much work to be done but the seeds of the coming backlash have been planted. The Schiavo debacle was a huge political miscalculation for the GOP and woke up and othewise sleepy electorate… once people started paying attention the mood in the country turned on the Republican’s fast.
The GOP is in trouble, lets see if the Dems can make something happen…. a big IF for sure but if I’m a Republican I’d be getting a bit nervous.
Our coming TABOR vote was mentioned at the liberal blog Atrios

If the Senate Majority leader is involved in insider trading, then he does need to be prosecuted, however if he is not you better be prepared to eat a large tasty dish of crow.
Considering your statement:
” We need to get past the crimes of DeLay and Frist, the two highest-ranking Republicans on Capitol Hill. There are more serious crimes to worry about.”
It appears that you have already judged them to be guilty with no evidence whatsoever, unless you need to disclose some leaks that only you are privy to. Care to disclose your sources?
You keep alledging crimes committed, however unless I am wrong, isn’t the rule is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law? Also, is a subpeona for records proof of a crime?
As far as the libelous statements go, when you refer to them as criminals, that is correct, because you are making a defamatory statement or representation that conveys an unjustly unfavorable impression (Check the dictionary).
Frist will be cleared as will Delay. The sad thing about Frist is that the only way the Dems would have been happy is if he had lost his lunch on HCA. Rather he makes an ethical decision to be above reproach on a company with family ties and gets out.
Manofthehour:
Right. The Clintons lost tens of thousands on the Whitewater investment and the GOP spent $70 million investigating it.
By way, did you forget HCA has been convicted of medicare fraud? Sounds like an honorable family business– if you are a Saprano.
Raiders,
Do I think Frist and DeLay are guilty? Of course!
Are they innocent until proven guilty? Yes indeedy, that’s how it works in the U.S.A.
Will I continue to speculate on how deep and far this Republican culture of corruption extends? Bet on it.
Happy Thursday!
Guess we are going to have a fun year then….
Red State in 2006!
Raiders,
I remember you clearly, loudly and forcefully defending Bill Clinton as innocent until proven. I clearly remember Frist, Delay, Rove, et. al loudly saying, “You people are just looking for reasons to bring down Democratic leaders. If they did something wrong, then they deserve what is coming to them, but not until it has been proven. We (R’s) are not going to win any elections on the starategy of trying to make the other guy be a bad guy.” Having run for office in CO I can say honestly that R’s DO NOT use that tactic of making an opponent look like “a bad guy.” And I totally agree with you, it’s OK for us (R’s) to smear and libel, but don’t you dare do it to us.
mac,
Your memory is much better than mine.
I always thought Clinton should have said, “Yeah, I shagged her, so what?”
Maybe that would have kept him out of trouble
