Beauprez Raises $500,589

  • by: Colorado Pols

Republican Bob Beauprez’s campaign for governor announced today that Beauprez raised $500,589 in Q3. With an additional $100k raised since Sept. 30, they are also reporting that they have joined Marc Holtzman’s campaign in surpassing $1 million.

This is a strong performance for Beauprez and helps him make up ground on a big early fundraising lead for Holtzman.

BEAUPREZ TOPS $1 MILLION
Contributions from all 64 counties and 97% in-state donations show grassroots strength

The Bob Beauprez for Governor campaign today filed its quarterly contribution and expenditure report with the Colorado Secretary of State.  For the three-month reporting period beginning on July 1 and ending on September 30, the campaign reported a total of $500,589 in contributions from 1,686 donors.

We’ve had two very strong fundraising quarters and were extremely pleased with the progress that weve made, said Congressman Beauprez.  We count this as proof positive that our campaign is off to a very strong start.

According to Beauprez campaign spokesman John Marshall, as of the 9/30 filing the campaign had 2,896 contributors–including one from all 64 Colorado counties–and 97% of contributions were from Colorado.  We are pleased to have such a long and diverse list of donors representing all 64 counties at this point in the election cycle.  It speaks highly of the grassroots enthusiasm for Bob Beauprez, said Marshall.

Notable donors this reporting period include former congressman Bob Schaffer, former National Security Advisor to President Reagan Dick Allen, former Denver Bronco John Elway, former State House majority leader Tim Foster, San Luis Valley GOP activist Tim Bachicha, El Pomar Foundation President Bill Hybl, State Senator Nancy Spence, and University of Northern Colorado President Kay Norton, among many others.

Since September 30, the Beauprez for Governor campaign has raised an additional $100,000, which now pushes the total funds raised to just over $1 million.  It really is humbling to see so many ordinary Coloradans stepping forward and helping us out, said Beauprez.

  1. Holtzman’s got some serious mudslinging to do if he wants to catch up to Beauprez at this point.  BB put on a significant fund-raising effort to get this close to caught up.  Combined with the RMN poll showing BB with a committed 47% of the GOP primary vote, and Holtzman has an uphill battle ahead of him.

Of course, if part of Beauprez’ money really did come from a stolen e-mail list, all bets are off.  But it’s been really quiet from the Holtzman camp lately about “personal Rolodexes”, and no word out from the DA’s office, either.  Hmm…

  2. Maybe that’s because MH was making it up.  Wouldn’t be the first time.  Of course, desparation and panic make even sane people do strange things.

  3. It is time for Colorado Pols to move Bob Beauprez back up the Governor’s line.  Not only will Representative Beauprez soon surpass Holtzman in contributions, but he also has an almost unsurmountable lead in name recognition.  There is absolutely no way the he is not the favorite to win the Republican nomination.

  4. A lead in name ID isn’t necessarily a Good Thing.  Low name ID usually means an opportunity to really raise your poll numbers, while high name ID usually means you get what you see.  The problem for Holtzman is that 47% number for Beauprez in the primary; it won’t take much to bump Beauprez over the top, and it would take a big scandal to haul him down.  Like stolen e-mail lists, or $30,000 from a guilty Tom Delay (and more from Delay’s aides) – assuming either of those actually come to pass.

  5. Hey, I’m too lazy to go get a paper copy of the Rocky. Did the graphic they printed include fav/unfav numbers for the candidates? Anyone care to share them?

  6. Pheonix,

Did you see your hero Angie P’s pathetic fundraising effort.  Don’t tell me she only had 2 weeks.  She could have been raising money the entire explore comm.  That’s what they are for.  Not only is she personally bankrupt but she is politically bankrupt as well.  Run angie run.  what a joke.

  7. Did anyone else notice the not so subtle mention of “former National Security Advisor to President Reagan Dick Allen” and John Elway? Wasn’t Holtzman claiming them as big supporters a while back?

Man, reality’s hit Holtzman like Courtney Brown coming after Amos Zereoue…

  8. Wait a minute… $500K? What about Watson shooting her mouth off about crossing the $1 MIL mark IN Q3??

Niceway to cover not meeting your goals there BB Crowd.

  9. Iron Mike,

You sure are a moron some times.  Cinamon wantd to cross the $1 million in total dollars raised, not $1 million for the 3rd Quarter.

So… I guess they did meet their goal and you just look stupid.

  10. Big Bill Ritter raises under $300,000 despite having no opposition.
Marc Holtzman raises well over $300,000 after doing nearly double that last quarter. Bill Ritter is beginning to sound a lot like Rollie Heath. Great idea but no money, no base and not a chance in Hell. Marc and Bob will work things out and we are on our way to four more years of Republicans in charge

  11. By Bob and Marc working it out, you mean Bob will crush Marc, who won’t even get the 30 percent necessary to get on the ballot at the GOP convention?

  12. In Freakonomics, the authors say that money doesn’t decide elections, candidates do. Since BB and MM are at parity and the money momentum seems to be with BB who has the support of the GOP establisment and probably the precinct leaders as well, it seems to me that MH has a tough mountain to climb.

Simply put, if experience, establishment support and presence will win, BB leads MH by 55-60 to 45-40%. MH is smart, energetic and good in one-on-one. But he’s relatively new to the state, doesn’t have the stump talents needed to win over precinct leaders or primary voters and has been tarnished by his little white lies about his career.

Worse for MH is that he doesn’t have an issue that differentiates him from BB. C& D will be long forgotten by the time the state assembly gathers and the primary voters have their says. I’m sure that when the editorial writers get around to it, they’ll support BB, unless he blows it or backs out because of back problems, which is MH’s only hope, at this point, imho.

As for Ritter, I’ve never met him or heard him speak, so it’s hard to comment on his campaign. That he leads the Repubs in some pols is interesting, but I’m not sure that it means much at this point.

Meanwhile, I think independents and Republicans who don’t like the party’s play to its religious base are likely to vote Democratic in 2006 just to clean house and send a message to the party. So I would anticipate that a Dem would take CD 7 as well as CD 3 and that the Dems would hold the legislature.

Even though the national Dems are a disgrace, they’re the only alternatives to the party in power, which seems to have overstayed its welcome.

  13. Donald,

You may want to explain that “Freakonomics” is a book by Economists Steven Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner that deals with applying “systematic reasoning” to social problems.

I think your statement fairly represents what the authors say.
