Democrat Vince Chowdhury, a Jefferson County School Board member who was elected as a Republican (he changed party affiliation in September 2006), has had a bad run of publicity…which will happen when you allegedly slap and strangle your teenage daughter for not opening the garage door when your car is in the driveway.
But Chowdhury, who has been asked to resign both from his School Board seat and his campaign for HD-22, apparently sees things differently in terms of blame. Here’s what he told the Rocky Mountain News:
Chowdhury, a candidate in the Democratic primary for House District 22, has not indicated whether he plans to resign, only saying he is “trying to focus” on his family.
“Everybody has pretty much destroyed my life,” he said Friday.
Probably not the quote we would have advised for someone who admittedly attacked his daughter (although he disputes the strangling charge).

crawl back under a rock.
Hey Republicans, you want him back?
Doug’s definitely one of yours. After all, he was chosen by your party to fill a State House vacancy.
If for only because he won’t be back after the primary!
Be gone …
Unfortunately, he’s still in the HD22 race, in a primary against Camille Ryckman.
They have already been printed.
If he were to drop out now, the only thing they could do is not count votes cast for him.
Depending on their votring machines, they may be able to cover up his name for the election day voters, but the mail voters would still see him.
The best hope is for Camille to do well in the primary.
Chowdhury’s fellow board members voted to recommend his resignation but they have no standing to force his resignation. I don’t believe that he has resigned yet. Should be interesting to see if he sticks it out. That would be (another) window into his character.
Elected officials take an oath of office and should expect to be held to both higher standards and public scrutiny.
We have seen – time and time again – indignant elected officials who believe their private actions are just that, private. Not so in the public eye, and not when it deals with injuring a child or family member.
Mr. Chowdury, your colleagues on the school board have it right – you cannot be effective any longer given this scandal and you must resign. You cannot advocate for children and mistreat your own child.
I trust the voters in HD22 will do the right thing and vote for Camille, but you do not belong in your current position another day.
