As the Rocky Mountain News reports:
An anti-Obama film will be shown on the 16th Street Mall on Sunday afternoon, the eve of the opening of the DNC.
The full-length film is called “Hype: The Obama Effect.” It’s produced by a national conservative group called Citizens United.
“I can’t think of a more appropriate time or place to hold the world premiere of this film than in the middle of the Obama media frenzy that will be the Democratic convention,” said David Bossie, executive producer of Hype and president of Citizens United. “Obama-palooza is going to be more of a rock concert than a serious political event, and that is exactly the phenomenon that Hype cuts through to get to the past, politics and policies that have propelled this freshman senator to the world stage.”
Citizens United, based in Washington, has produced several other movies, including one about Hillary Clinton and another about the ACLU and about Newt Gingrich. The organization includes a group called Citizens United for the Bush Agenda…
But the really interesting part is,
Colorado GOP chairman Dick Wadhams will co-host the movie premiere and local McCain supporters are expected to attend the 3 p.m. event at the Denver Pavilions. [Pols emphasis]
What’s interesting here is that Citizens United is incorporated as a 501(c)4 organization, and as such isn’t allowed to coordinate with candidates or political parties.
So why is GOP chairman Dick Wadhams hosting the event? And why would a “nonpartisan” organization cherry-pick McCain supporters to attend an event? This film is designed to “raise questions,” right?
Looks like it just did…
