Big Tent Day 1

(from the ColoradoPols on the spot news team – promoted by DavidThi808)

After months and months of primaries, caucuses and fighting, the big event is finally here. It feels almost anti-climactic considering all the fretting and worries from some-it’ll probably start to get more exciting once the gavel falls around 3:00. I also want to take this opportunity to thank Pols and David for giving me the opportunity to come here and experience this truly unique event. I’m not the most experienced political writer, so it means a lot to me that they would put their faith in an unknown. I’ll try my best not to let them down. Of course, if nobody from Pols was down here, it wouldn’t seem right-so I’m happy to be representing our community. If you’re going to be around Lo-Do today, or any time this week, you can e-mail me at redstateblues2008@gmail.com and I will try to meet up with you.

There are lots of events and interesting guest speakers that are scheduled here, but my goal here for this week is to try to spend more time covering the people. Four years ago in Boston the blogosphere was there, but it wasn’t nearly as huge as it is today.  For there to be a place where new media and established bloggers can gather to share in the madness that is a political convention says a lot about the DNC-and this election. Our influence as citizen journalists is only going up; especially as more and more people use the web for their primary source of news and political information. We can only hope that the precedent of having so many non-traditional reporters here will only go towards improving our standing as a truly independent news source.

  1. from CNN

Jon Stewart took after the “established” media for getting too cozy with candidates and regurgitating campaign spin when it comes to political coverage.

In a breakfast with reporters, Stewart directed most of his ire at the 24-hour cable news networks, which he called “gerbil wheels,” and said the media at-large had “abdicated” to what he called the “slow-witted beast.”

    1. On the good news side, at the weekly sales meeting today numbers were very very good – if they had been this good last week I probably could have been at the DNC this week.

Ah… the carefree and low pressure life of running a company…

      1. Everyone man, woman and child should have heard Ted Kennedy…..it was a speech of historical dimensions. Quite hard hitting. I’m sure it’ll be YouTubed.

  2. but I can’t find a better place. Does anyone have any ideas why the Sec State (Coffman) is going to be in Lake County seeing the clerk on Wednesday? Is he just touring to get away from DNC crowds? Or, is there some necessity….

  3. Because I waited until midnight and they’re showing a rerun. (Grumble grumble that I have to wait until midnight to watch new episodes, instead of 9 pm like every reasonable person would expect.)
