Ok, I created my ColoradoBallot site at a giatn cost of $11.00 for the domain name. Threw it up on my server, spent 2 nights writing the pages, spent a bit on google ads.
As of 10:00 this morning it had 45,000 unique visitors including 7,000 just this morning. And they’re averaging 9 – 10 pages each. So they’re hitting it and reading it.
I’ve also had numerous emails from people thanking me for it saying that it was a lot clearer than the newspaper ones – since I didn’t worrk about presenting both sides as each phrased it, but rather tried to have a short direct definition of each. (I also had numerous emails from the far left & right livid about parts – good test that I was even-handed.)
So what does this mean? Before the internet having this level of impact on the initiatives would have required a multi-million dollar TV budget and a significant amount of time fluffing the editorial board writers at all the newspapers. Those are major barriers to entry.
But now, all it takes is a couple of free nights and the ability to write. This is a gigantic broadening of the political stage. Some have a louder voice than others, but we all now will be heard by some. And the more compelling our message, the more it will get out there.
I think this is going to grow. The ROI is incredible and anyone can do this on their own. Winning campaigns in the future will be ones that make the best use of this, both in creating supportive sites and working to get opposing sites to be more gentle.
Every election the process is becoming moare and more democratic – it will be interesting to see where we are in another 4 years.
Ok, it looks like turnout sucked across the state today. And early voting was not enough that we have good turnout with just that.
One possibility, I looked at the states for my ColoradoBallot site and the single biggest day of the last 2 months was yesterday. I don’t think that was for cheet sheets for today as the voting was so small today.
But what if everyone who still had a mail in ballot filled it out yesterday (hence the web activity) and then dropped it off yesterday or today?
Boulder got a hair under 10K yesterday which is 5%. What if they got another 20K ballots dropped off today for another 10%?
We’ll have to wait a day or so to find out – but we may be ok on the totals.
there were something like 200,000 mail-in ballots still to be turned in today and most of them were.
The turnout was huge — in Jeffco, the early voting was 4-to-1 vs. election day voting. We’re becoming more and more like Oregon.
Look at the Jeffco turnout:
Active registered 302,259
Ballots Cast: 337,325
Voter Turnout: 111.60 %
That means a ton of INACTIVE registered voters dusted off the cobwebs and voted. That’s huge, David, even if there weren’t big long lines at the polls today because 80 percent had already voted early.
Turnout rocked, it didn’t suck. Not by a long shot.
to get county results for County Commission and similar races? I wonder how Garfield is going? I noticed Obama is ahead there.

I saw CC races somewhere, but I can’t find them at the link I provided. Sorry.
First, go here
http://www.elections.colorado….
Click on the county, it’ll take you to the clerk’s page — election results or an elections page ought to be prominent. Then drill down.
