Lame o.
It does make me wonder, though, why the governor would give people the chance to weigh in. The only people who will be happy are those who happen to support the governor’s selection…the others will feel like they were ignored.
I think his process was fair and transparent. I didn’t vote for Bernie on the Progress Now poll during the first round and I like who ended up being appointed.
As for people that the governor allowed to express an opinion, I think that was a wise thing to do. This position is one that in the past has been tainted by abuse and unethical behavior. In my opinion, it’s one of the most important functions of our state government–overseeing the vote and working dilligently not to disenfranchise anyone. The fact that Ritter gave this office the serious merit it deserved impressed me.
People that mocked the process started to look like the fools themselves when Blago’s version of how to pick someone came to light.
but I perceive Gov. Ritter to be fair and honest and someone who will choose whom he believes to be the very best candidate. I guess the website does give an appearance of “listenig to the people,” but let’s face it, public opinion won’t cause the governor to choose Candidate A over Candidate B, unless he really and truly is torn between two (or more) folks.
He’s almost earnestly boring, he’s so honest. At this point, I’m really liking that about him. And with the caliber of some of the potential candidates, I would say there is a genuine possibility that he is torn.
