but only if it went directly towards funding public transportation projects. It would make a lot of sense to toll PeГ±a in order to get the money to build some sort of rail to the airport.
Tolls are pretty regressive, but tolls that are only in place to repave or build more highways–now that’s really regressive.

I come from the great toll state of IL. Once the toll is built they will never take it down.
It will cost more money to visit or do business at the airport, I see no upside to this.
declaring that once the construction was completed the money for operations would have to come from RTD. That would probably result in some sort of fee increase elsewhere, but it would eliminate the tolls once they expired.
Since our representatives here are term limited, unlike Illinois, that might make it less likely that the tolls would be re-instated after the sunset too.
But CA is another example. “Temporary” bridge toll increases starting 15 years ago or so and now they’re probably going to go up to $5 next year. Even term limited state legislators don’t usually like to give back revenue streams…

Personally, I think the Mayor saw the poll results above and made his decision 🙂
