Marilyn Musgrave's got a job

(You missed her, cop to it – promoted by Colorado Pols)

An update to the “Marilyn Musgrave: Wackadoo for Hire!” story from December.

The morbidly-fascinated-with-Musgrave editor of the Coloradoan (we understand) reports the old girl has got a new job after getting fired last November:

Former Rep. Marilyn Musgrave has been hired by a national political group to head a new project that will aim to unseat abortion-rights supporters in Congress.

The Susan B. Anthony List, which raises money to assist women candidates who oppose abortion, has created a new program called “Votes Have Consequences” and Musgrave will head the program, the Christian Broadcasting Network reported today.

A creepy video is available at CBN.com.

Musgrave says they are going to have a year-round fundraising strategy to target districts, and that she is going to be involved in raising money for it. It looks like Marilyn is joining the ranks of right wing hucksters like Tony Perkins and “Lucky” Louie Sheldon, who use gay-baiting and fear-mongering direct marketing schemes to soak money off old bigots to fund their very comfortable lifestyles. It will be interesting to see how much money Musgrave is able to raise, and even more interesting to see how much actually gets spent on races.

As for SBA’s actual impact in 2010 — it apparently still hasn’t dawned on Marilyn Musgrave that the country has moved on from the divisive Culture Wars, and that her side lost. But by all means, keep it up.

    1. No one really knows.  The best arguments pro-lifers have come from articles in her newspaper signed by an initial.  Her paper keeper people (I forget what they’re called) don’t think she wrote those articles because she didn’t sign her articles with just an “A.”

Frankly even if she did oppose abortion that doesn’t mean she thought the government should make it criminal.  For instance, I think abortion is wrong, but I don’t think it’s my job, or right, to tell a woman what she has to give her body to and for how long.

Interestingly, Feminists for Life has a list of quotes from the “A” articles.  See if you can find the SBA’s hypocrisy.

“Guilty? Yes. No matter what the motive, love of ease, or a desire to save from suffering the unborn innocent, the woman is awfully guilty who commits the deed. It will burden her conscience in life, it will burden her soul in death; But oh, thrice guilty is he who drove her to the desperation which impelled her to the crime!”

Abortion was referred to as “child murder.”

      The Revolution, 4(1):4 July 8, 1869

We want prevention, not merely punishment. We must reach the root of the evil…It is practiced by those whose inmost souls revolt from the dreadful deed.”

      The Revolution, 4(1):4 July 8, 1869

“All the articles on this subject that I have read have been from men. They denounce women as alone guilty, and never include man in any plans for the remedy.”

      The Revolution, 4(1):4 July 8, 1869

I must have missed the bills on deadbeat dad’s prision time, or MM’s bill for sex education.

There’s a whole other discussion on the different circumstances, she did live more than 125 years ago.  The abortion movement was led by male doctors, supposedly trying to force midwives out of business.  Abortion was also a dirty, unsafe (no jokes, please) practice.

I was supposed to write a short paper in college about it, but ended up churning out 15 pages.

        1. Like gun control, abortion has pretty much settled into an idling state.  The lines are drawn, no one is switching sides, but mostly, voters care much more about minor things like their JOBS, their SAVINGS, their kid’s education, the environment, etc.

Go for it Marilyn.  Just proves your minor nutcase status.

  1. has created a new program called “Votes Have Consequences” and Musgrave will head the program

Yep – the consequence MM found was that taking this approach gets you voted out of office. She’s the last person they should have heading this up.

  2. the fact that this is a political dead end is irrelevant now for MM.   Rush can make zillions and MM can make a good living catering to the millions who share their views.  Political power is someone else’s problem now for MM, as it always has been for Rush.

  3. Frankly, the more these nuts publicize their out of touch, rigid and completely unpopular views in districts, the better off the pro-choice community is.

You’ll recall when the pro-choice community did the advertizing thing on the

Feeley/Beauprez race in 02 that completely didn’t work and that some of us believe caused his loss?  Well the same effect here.  When people hear the nonsense these folks put out, they’re going to vote for the consequences, and that means that they’ll vote pro-choice.

Typical Republican head in the sand nonsense.  Just continue to say and believe that your opinion is the majority and it will be.  Wrong.  Tell that to the Democrats in control of this state and nation.
