Where’d the warm weather go?

  1. Anybody know how MH’s event went last night?

I saw it on the news, but that was about it.  Seems like it got about as much attention as Both Ways Bobs big announcement.

  2. I heard there was some damn college kid at the event last night photos of license plates again.  Marc chased him away though.

  3. It is disappointing when a teacher for a public school pushes his personal agenda on students that HAVE to be there. What the hell does his dislike of Bush have to do with Sophmore High School Geometry?
Kudos to the student that brought it to light and to Mike Rosen for airing it.
I heard his speech. And I have heard some of his previous students. This apparently has been going on since they hired him.
How could anyone defend this dick.
If he was spouting pro Bush propoganda it would be just as bad.
A teacher needs to teach, not make political statements trying to sway youngsters toward either the left or right. Those kids have plenty of time to make up their own minds if the want to be a conservative, moderate, or loser.

  4. Poll of troops in Iraq: 72% support for
    withdrawal within year

      Washington ? Seventy-two
percent of troops on the ground in Iraq think U.S. military forces
should get out of the country within a year, according to a Zogby poll
released Tuesday …The survey of 944 troops, conducted in Iraq between
Jan. 18 and Feb. 14, said that only 23 percent of service members
thought U.S. forces should stay ?as long as they are needed.? … Of
the 72 percent, 22 percent said troops should leave within the next six
months, and 29 percent said they should withdraw ?immediately.?

  5. Gecko,

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I agree with you, 100%, period. I wrote this over on Soapblox and I’ll say it here: Teachers are held to a higher set of standards when voicing their personal views and rightfully so. Would anyone be as equally outraged if this had been a teacher suspended for espousing right wing bullshit?

PS: I think he taught Geography, not Geometry.

  6. It was a geography course. There you go again….why do you assumne it’s a dislike of Bush? What I heard was a dislike for the policies of this administration that lead to unnecessary and illegal wars and violence, and are hypocritical on the world stage regarding WMD. If you care to refute specific points made, have at it. As usual, your post has little to offer except rant.

  7. Gecko,

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I agree with you, 100%, period. I wrote this over on Soapblox and I’ll say it here: Teachers are held to a higher set of standards when voicing their personal views and rightfully so. 8. Word on the street in Jeffco is that Stan Matsunaka, former president of the CO Senate and big-name Perlmutter supporter, has been lurking in the halls of the Jefferson County Courthouse asking questions about Peggy Lamm and the inquiry into her residency.

Is this Lamm thing so high on the Perlmutter priority list that they send the biggest fish in their pond to talk it up without caring that it’s transparent?  You’d think Ed would use an anonymous “damn college kid”  to do his dirty work like everyone else.

  9. As warned, Western Slope folks are taking the surface rights initiative to the voters.

This does not bode well for Democratic candidates from legistlators to John Salazar.

Why? A lot of people involved with the initiative (and we’re talking about Garfield, Delta, Mesa, LaPlata, Montrose, etc–and even Weld) are the GOTV grunt workers for the Democratic Party. If these Dems are out promoting and financially supporting the intiative, they won’t be out working for the Democratic candidates.

Plus, many “U’s” and “R’s” who agree with the Western Democratic view of surface rights may not so prone to vote “D” like they did in 2004 if nothing’s been done for them by the Democratic controlled legislature.

The Democratic powers that may be in the legislature should listen to the “little guy” on this issue (get real people, the oil and gas industry will NEVER support Democrats in the upcoming races) and put the language back in Curry’s bill to protect surface owners.

The intiative will then go away and the worker bees will return to the hive.

PS: This is a good time to see Cheney’s energy policy at work on the West Slope….there are over 25 gas rigs going up along I-70 and the Colorado River between Rifle and Parachute right now. It almost looks like Las Vegas at night!

Landowners may tap ballot for drilling compensation
    By Jim Hughes
    Denver Post Staff Writer

Fed up with the legislative process, a group of citizens said Wednesday they will take their effort to get landowner compensation for oil and gas drilling to the voters.

The group, Colorado Landowners for Fairness, announced its intentions and registered with the state as an official ballot-question campaign committee this week, it said.

  10. I just got an email that has me steamed!

Sharron Klein is nuttier than her husband and she needs to resign as chair of the Denver Dems.

Between the two of them, they have done more damage to the Dem party than Karl Rove and Dick Wadhams combined.  As the old saying goes, with friends like this, who needs enemies.

  11. Roger, could you be more vague? Details, please.

Emma Anne, FYI, He’s a Geography teacher. If you you read the transcript, his commentary didn’t have much to do w/ Geography. It was an excellent history lesson, though. I pretty much agreed with every point he made. Unfortunately, it was also pretty damned inappropriate for a bunch of high schoolers.

  12. Massive expensive STUPID BLUNDER! ( Just one in a long line by Bush/Cheny/Rumsfeld/Wolfawitz et al)

Who could forget the wingnuts telling everyone that even if WMDs were not found, it was still worth while removing Saddam because he was such an evil character. So what will they have to say about this from the former UN human rights official in Iraq?

John Pace, who last month left his post as director of the human rights office at the U.N. Assistance Mission for Iraq, said the level of extra-judicial executions and torture is soaring, and morgue workers are being threatened by both government-backed militia and insurgents not to properly investigate deaths.

“Under Saddam, if you agreed to forgo your basic right to freedom of expression and thought, you were physically more or less OK,” Pace said in an interview with The Associated Press. “But now, no. Here, you have a primitive, chaotic situation where anybody can do anything they want to anyone.”

  13. Pager, you are correct. It was geography and not geometry. I was so pissed when I heard this story I mis wrote. My apologies.
But it wouldn’t matter if it was English class. He needs fired.

  14. Gecko, I think we’ve finally found Sir Robin’s real identity.  Envision this scenario:
“Teacher, what’s the capital of Outer Mongolia?”
“It doesn’t matter, Jenny.  Who can talk about geography when the Fascist Bush administration is crushing the peace-loving people of Iraq and keeping an imperialist presence in Boulder County. Socialism forever! Impeach Bush!  Impeach the liar!”
    -0-
    Sound familiar?

  15. Rant on! Voyageur and Gecko are probably sleeping with each other:-)

When either of you want to debate the facts, let’s get it on.

Your rants are hilarious. Thanks for the entertainment.

  16. Gecko: “I mis wrote” and “He needs fired”…..You need the English class. Again, refute the issues raised….point by point. Otherwise, stop the rant.

    Now…

Two highly classified intelligence reports delivered directly to President Bush before the Iraq war cast doubt on key public assertions made by the president, Vice President Cheney, and other administration officials as justifications for invading Iraq and toppling Saddam Hussein, according to records and knowledgeable sources.

The president received highly classified intelligence reports containing information at odds with his justifications for going to war.

The first report, delivered to Bush in early October 2002, was a one-page summary of a National Intelligence Estimate that discussed whether Saddam’s procurement of high-strength aluminum tubes was for the purpose of developing a nuclear weapon.

Among other things, the report stated that the Energy Department and the State Department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research believed that the tubes were “intended for conventional weapons,” a view disagreeing with that of other intelligence agencies, including the CIA, which believed that the tubes were intended for a nuclear bomb.

The disclosure that Bush was informed of the DOE and State dissents is the first evidence that the president himself knew of the sharp debate within the government over the aluminum tubes during the time that he, Cheney, and other members of the Cabinet were citing the tubes as clear evidence of an Iraqi nuclear program. Neither the president nor the vice president told the public about the disagreement among the agencies.

When U.S. inspectors entered Iraq after the fall of Saddam’s regime, they determined that Iraq’s nuclear program had been dormant for more than a decade and that the aluminum tubes had been used only for artillery shells.

The second classified report, delivered to Bush in early January 2003, was also a summary of a National Intelligence Estimate, this one focusing on whether Saddam would launch an unprovoked attack on the United States, either directly, or indirectly by working with terrorists.

The report stated that U.S. intelligence agencies unanimously agreed that it was unlikely that Saddam would try to attack the United States — except if “ongoing military operations risked the imminent demise of his regime” or if he intended to “extract revenge” for such an assault, according to records and sources.

The single dissent in the report again came from State’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research, known as INR, which believed that the Iraqi leader was “unlikely to conduct clandestine attacks against the U.S. homeland even if [his] regime’s demise is imminent” as the result of a U.S. invasion.

And trillions of dollars and thousands of lives later, this abysmal failure of this administration is still being defended by the shills like Voyageur, Gecko (It’s your president!), and BMR. Or, have you changed your mind? Let’s get it on!

  17. Ahh, the sound of the fruitcake is head in the land.  Sir Robin is typing his way into Carpal Tunnel Syndrome to express his hatred of America.

  18. I asked another smart ass yesterday what he was going to do about it and he simply hurled insults and avoided the question.
So I put it to you Sir Robin the Hater, instead of twenty minute bitch sessions, why don’t you actually do something about what you are crying about? Writing to anonomous people on a blog will accomplish what, ZERO.
Oh and to get back to the news of the day, what is your views on the teacher spewing your line of crap to 16 year olds trapped in a school room?
My opinion is known, disipline him. Firing is better but that can’t happen.
I can’t imagine that one of you, flaming liberals or not, can condone that type of activity.

  19. Actually, Gecko, Joe Stalin is Sir Robin’s president.  The bravely running away one is actually a deep cover NKVD agent who used to handle the Rosenbergs and never got the memo announcing the Cold War was over.

  20. Rant on. Refute something this teacher said, specifically, or forget it. And Echo, you have no idea what I’m doing, so give it up. Voyageur, you disappoint me, because I know you’re an intelligent individual, but apparently deeply flawed. You have a body and mind, but no soul to go with your bald head.

“Bravely running away”….what a joke…I’m in your face for the duration. Get used to it.

  21. Nice answer SR.
There are several other Dems on this site that have at least had the stones to say what that teacher did was wrong. I tip my hat to them.
But you side step the main issue. Why? Because you agree with him. You would do the same thing if you had the chance. That shows what a low life you really are.
Ruin young kids minds just because you don’t like “YOUR” President.
Nice. Sure glad I graduated in 74. They actually taught English, History, Math, and Geography back then.

  22. More rant. List and refute the points he raised. Otherwise, last time I checked, this is still a free speech country.

You don’t have a clue what young minds are being ruined.

  23. Oh brave, Sir Robin, he bravely ran away.  Pick your sobriquet from a Monty Python Movie, and you have to live with it.  Seriously, only a mentally ill individual would cut and pastes thousands of words endlessly on a site devoted to “Colorado Politics” and never mention a word about “Colorado Politics.”  To you, everything is a segue to your bizarre world views, where you try to pump up your battered self-esteem by proclaiming yourself lord of the universe.  I’mve had to deal with  mentally ill people before, and would genuinely spare you some sympathy if you weren’t such a colossal pain in the ass.  Nobody reads your screeds, Running Away One.  All the regulars have learned to spot a stupefyingly long, wholly irrational, cut and paste by you and simply skip to the next line where Gecko bursts your bubble with  a pinprick of his patented common sense.

  24. What’s scary about free speech? My challenge stands, to you as well as the other ranters, list the points this teacher raised and refute them. It’s that simple.

  25. ARTIST: Monty Python
    TITLE: Brave Sir Robin

[Monty Python and the Holy Grail]

Bravely bold Sir Robin rode forth from Camelot
He was not afraid to die, O brave Sir Robin
He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways
Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin

He was not in the least bit scared to be mashed into a pulp
Or to have his eyes gouged out and his elbows broken
To have his kneecaps split and his body burned away
And his limbs all hacked and mangled, brave Sir Robin

His head smashed in and his heart cut out
And his liver removed and his bowels unplugged
And his nostrils raped and his bottom burnt off
    And his penis…
Well that’s enough music for now, lads…

Brave Sir Robin ran away – No!
    Bravely ran away, away – I didn’t!
When danger reared its ugly head
He bravely turned his tail and fled – No!
Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about
    And gallantly he chickened out
    Bravely taking to his feet
He beat a very brave retreat
Bravest of the brave, Sir Robin

  26. More rant, invective ind verbal abuse from Voyageur. From someone familiar with the mini-mental exam, PASSAR, bi-polar, OCD and schizo-affective disorder, your bullshit means nothing to me.

My challenge stands. Lets debate specific historical facts, either past or from the immediate present, and we’ll have at it.

This is an Open Thread, and by the expressed invitation of the hosts, it is open to any and all topics. You’re also against free speech, it would appear. Please note, I don’t weigh in on non-Colorado topics but in the open thread. Get over it.

  27. Gecko, my friend, Sirhan Robin not only didn’t see the movie, he didn’t even get the memo!
But I do believe him when he says he is “familiar with the mini-mental exam, PASSAR, bi-polar, OCD and schizo-affective disorder.”
He obviously have been diagnosed with those very conditions, confirming my hunch.

  28. Sorry chaps, I’ve been right all along:

Now it?s Gallup?s turn. The latest CNN/USAT/Gallup poll just came out, and Bush is back down to a 38% approval rating, with a 60% disapproval rating. But here?s the killer for W: the ?strongly disapprove? level is now up to 44%.

In the 2006 general ballot question, the Democrats have a 14-point advantage (53%-39%).

73% now say that Big Business has too much influence over the Bush Administration (are you paying attention Dems?)

58% say that Bush isn?t paying enough attention to what in the hell his administration is doing.

73% say a civil war is likely in Iraq.

66% oppose the Dubai ports deal.

And, the latest poll also out today by Quinnipiac University has Bush down to 36% approval, with 58% disapproval.

  29. Voyageur, you’re such an asshole. I have advanced degrees in mental health and gerontology. I’ve humbly enjoyed national, statewide, local tv, radio and printed press for my innovative work. You should keep a lid on your ignorant mouth when you don’t know what you’re talking about.

  30. Robin, you’re a whack job.  I’ve known a lot of people who were whack jobs to go into the mental health field…it’s a desperate attempt by them to find out what’s wrong with them.  Honestly, if you weren’t a whack job, why spend endless hours trying to convince people that you are somehow a person of worth?  People who know they have intrinsic merit don’t have to seek external validation, and certainly not by cut and paste harangues under a Monty Python pseudonym in an anonymous forum.  You’re trembling as you read this, your whole body is shaking because, deep in the pit of your stomach, you know I’ve found your secret.  Well get used to it.  EVERYONE knows you’re a whack job.

  31. If I had one wish from a jeannie in a bottle right now it would be that a backwards “BUSH” would be tattooed on Sir Robins forehead, so every morning he could read about HIS President in the mirror…

  32. What’s shaking is my stomach from laughing so hard.

The challenge stands…..throw around all the rude language you want children, but eventually you have to debate facts, policy, inequality in our economic lives, true human and, dare I say, Christain values……what made this country great before you elected Bush, and what will make this country great again when we take back our government later this year.

  33. What’s scary about free speech?

    …………

Well, it scared Madeleine Murray O’Hare an awful lot.

Bennish is the new poster child for school choice.

  34. Of course, you’re laughing, Robin.  You’re not a bit paranoid.  Why, if you were paranoid, you’d paste post after post under a string of pseudonyms like, oh, Equity and Justice, Impeach Him, Impeach the Liar, Peter, and, of course, Sir Robin, to make it appear a whole bunch of people shared your paranoia.  By the way, take your “Christain”  values and, after learning how to spell them, shove them up your ass.  Your hand is trembling again dreaming of the days when you had the inquisition and could torture and maim those who dared to dissent against your power.  Well, numbnutz, that day ended when Gustavus Adolphus deployed light artillery against your Spanish tertiaries, smashed Wallenstein’s thugs, and brought religious freedom to Europe.  Deal with it, whack job!

  35. Gecko:

A teacher needs to teach, not make political statements trying to sway youngsters toward either the left or right. Those kids have plenty of time to make up their own minds if the want to be a conservative, moderate, or loser.

That’s right!  Don’t tell the kids what to think.  Just let them listen to both speeches back to back and decide for themselves that Bush’s underlying themes bear a remarkable resemblance to those of Hitler. It’s not like these kids are idiots.  They’ll figure it out for themselves.

  36. I’ve never liked Duncan Hunter, the California Republican who is chairman of the house armed services committee. He was an over the top vocal proponent of this misbegotten Iraq war from the start. But when he said Thursday he would try to scuttle a Dubai-based company’s effort to manage U.S. ports, he salvaged his reputation slightly, as lawmakers’ from both sides of the aisle continue complaints about the Bush administration’s handling of the issue continued to spread.

“Dubai cannot be trusted,” said Rep. Duncan Hunter, normally one of the administration’s most trusted allies. He called the United Arab Emirates “a bazaar for terrorist nations” and asserted that the United States should not permit DP World to take over significant operations at six U.S. ports.

“I intend to do everything I can to kill the deal,” Hunter said.

This is just wonderfully, deliciously, horrendously bad for Bush. We’re finally seeing an outright mutiny by Republicans on the Hill. And realize that the mutiny is because the members are being blasted by the folks at home. In other words, the American people are finally speaking up because they’re made as hell at the Bush administration, and senior Republican members of Congress are being forced to act.

This is amazing. We’re finally seeing Bush’s incompetence come to roost. Halle-fracking-lujah.

  37. Not surpisingly, the bravely running away one is willing to pander to and exploit the most brazen anti-Arab bigotry if it fuels his psychotic hatred of George Bush in particular and America in general.  Face it, if this foreign country were Sweden, or, in Robin’s case, North Korea, he wouldn’t worry about foreigners running our ports.

  38. Bennish is the new poster child for school choice.  And therein lies the ultimate reason for whipping up this story…

Having not heard the entire lecture, nor knowing the background about this teacher’s classes – supposedly, kids actually take his classes because his classes stir up controversy… – I won’t pass judgement on Bennish’s class.  But I will ask this: haven’t any of you had a high school history course that covered critical analysis?  It is precisely this kind of debate that high school kids should be exposed to before facing the Real World.
