    President Donald Trump on Wednesday accused Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.) of fabricating the claim that he told the widow of a soldier killed in combat that she “must’ve known what he signed up for.”

    “I have proof,” Trump tweeted. He offered no evidence.

    Wilson stood by her account of the president’s phone call with the widow, telling CNN’s “New Day” that she, too, has proof of Trump’s conversation. “He is a sick man,” she said. “He’s cold-hearted and he feels no pity or sympathy for anyone.” The fallen soldier’s mother said she also heard the call and confirmed Wilson’s account was accurate.

    In an interview before Trump’s tweet on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Wilson called Trump’s conversation with Johnson’s widow “absolutely crazy” and said the president didn’t even remember her husband’s name.

      The Sad!-ministration's spokesperson, Ms. Huckabee Sanders, latter says there is no proof. "Asked whether the White House had a recording of Trump's call with the widow, Myeshia Johnson, Sanders said it didn't."

    Which raises the broader question of the future of the president’s party in particular. The GOP is now torn between demagogues who appeal to the lowest-common-denominator concerns of voters and establishment types who roam like zombies on a terrain they can no longer navigate, among citizens for whom they have little in the way of answers.

    This is an unusual moment, as everyone senses. It would be foolish to dismiss the case for independent candidacies or new parties. We are, after all, citizens first, not partisans. John McCain’s 2008 slogan, “Country First,” didn’t prevail in that era’s polarized partisan environment. But McCain would not be the first prophet, denied honor, who turned out to be ahead of his time.

    "There is no question that the rally in the stock market has baked into it reasonably high expectations of us getting tax cuts and tax reform done,” Mnuchin said in the interview. “To the extent we get the tax deal done, the stock market will go up higher. But there’s no question in my mind that if we don’t get it done you’re going to see a reversal of a significant amount of these gains.”

    1. COGOP aren't actually in love with the O SG. More like an abusive arranged marriage, with possibly an illegitimate Russian babinski to pin the R on the stinky diaper.

      With the Dems on here, on a scale of Vger @10 to Zap @0, most fall in the 6-7 in love with HRC range. At which point it's obligatory to say, "Of course, we'd all be better off under an HRC administration." Claro que si.

      I'm ready for single payer on health care , Jared Polis for Gov, and Joe Salazar for AG. I think that makes me hard left in the eyes of most. Can't speak for anyone else.

      1. Thanks. No, unnamed is not me. Just popped back here today for the first time in awhile. Still like Alan F, so have to pop here once in blue moon to see what's up locally. Got my ballot today, even though I'm an independent. I still voted.

         

         

      2. Since Hillary is highly unlikely to run again, and please, god, don't let bernie back in the race at 79, I'd say most of us are up for grabs.  As for Polis, other than being gay, nothing ranks him far left.  

        As to dust puppy, It is my sad duty to tell him that joe stalin is dead and he is a man without a party.

    As anyone who watched the [financial] crisis and its aftermath knows, all the big banks suffered was cost of doing business fines.

    And this problem is widespread, as a new paper by Roy Shapira, Associate Professor at IDC Herzliya Radzyner Law School and Luigi Zingales, Professor at University of Chicago’s Business School suggests.

    The authors make a case study of DuPont’s failure to remedy the emissions of a harmful chemical, C8. used in making Teflon, that eventually led to a $670 million settlement earlier this year. Du Pont is the sort of blue-chippy company that cares about corporate governance enough to make sure it gets good marks on those scorecards. On top of that, DuPont is a top player in environmental and toxic substances research. They conclude it was nevertheless perfectly rational for DuPont to keep polluting
