Something non-political……..Malcolm Young, co-founder of the best heavy metal band ever, AC/DC, has passed away.
I just saw that on my FB ticker and wondered if you had, CHB. Just one more sign that we're getting old.
The older I get, skinny, the more I appreciate the opportunity to keep on doing that. Someday, people I know will continue to have that same opportunity, while mine will (for some yet unknown reason), have expired. I will be off to "find out something only dead men know", as Bob Dylan put it.
I am grateful for every day, and I try to never end a conversation with a loved one without telling them that I do love them. The only immortality of which we can be certain is the memory we leave behind in the hearts of those we can touch.
We should always remember to be certain that touch is gentle.

Gillibrand remark on Clinton sends shockwaves through Democratic Party
Clinton's intern-diddling was consensual, and she was of age. There was for sure a power imbalance, which makes it gross and maybe not so consensual, but it was also in the tradition of Presidential adultery. I read somewhere that only three presidents in American history did not have generally known affairs.
It was extra-marital, but that "betrayed his wife, not his country".
I like Gillibrand, but I question why she is bringing this up now.

Lewinsky was consenual and she was the aggressor. The cases of Kathleen Willey and Juanita Broadwick, who charged groping and rape, respectively, are more ambivalent.

A Clinton less universe would have given us 28 years of Voodoo economic Republican reign between Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama.
Remember, until Bill Clinton and his rapid response team came along, Democrats were incapable of winning the presidency.
No, you can’t say that with any certainty.
1. In a Clintonless universe, it’s unknown what might have happened in or after 1992.
2. Raygun, raised taxes. George The Smarter, raised taxes. (In fact it was GHWTS that recognized “voodoo economics” and first labeled it as such.). What we had until 1992, those first 12 of 28 years, was “voodoo rhetoric” more than “voodoo reality” — it isn’t just a recent phenomenon that Republican leaders have successfully sold unrealistic lies directly to their voting base. It could also be argued that Clinton didn’t so much win the 1992, as GHWTS lost — mostly as a result of his rejecting voodoo and abandoning that “no new taxes” pledge in the face of economic reality
3. “Voodoo reality” didn’t get it’s actual implementation until the last 8 of your 28 years, because up until then no President was actually stupid enough to believe their own lying rhetoric. And, you can (I do) lay George The Dumber at the feet of Clinton as his single-most significantly impactful direct legacy. Do you still have George The Dumber in a Clintonless universe? — I doubt it.
Bill Clinton as savior? I think he’s way more a sausage roll in the manger . . .
D.G.: don't overlook the fact that Ross Perot also was in the 1992 presidential race and got 19% of the vote, if I recall his percentage correctly.
Big difference between Reagan and G.W. Bush. Reagan did raise taxes when he thought it was needed. Bush, however, cut taxes on the rich and fought two wars with money borrowed from Chinese and other far eastern bankers.
Reagan also lowered taxes, and more than he raised them. The increase was only to stave off a worse mess.
The debt under Reagan rose by more than 185% from the point at which he entered, or about $1.8 trillion. This was a larger numerical increase than the roughly $1.6 trillion under Bush I, and a much larger increase by percentage– Bush was at about 55%. Bush II added more numerically (about $5.8 trillion) but still had a much smaller percentage increase– just over 100%. I'm guessing Reagan borrowed all that money from China, too, except, of course, that most of the debt (currently about 70%) is held by other US government entities or US funds, so maybe not so much China.

Would he ever go after that Historic Liar Orrin Hatch like Sherrod Brown did this past week? I doubt it.
Bennet won't vote for the Republican tax bill, assuming that it ever makes it out of Committee. Why would he want to be the only Democrat voting for the bill?
