Sentinel: ProgressNow Is Out Of Line

  • by: ReThinkRitter

In this morning’s edition of the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, the editorial board takes head on the obvious campaign plan of ProgressNow to ding Senator Josh Penry for any and all stupid comments his colleagues make, made or even thought.

http://www.gjsentinel.com/opin…

From the Editorial:

It’s more than a little disingenuous for ProgressNow board member Gail Schoettler to try to hold Penry responsible for comments made by members of the Senate Republican Caucus. True, Penry is the Senate minority leader, and nominal head of his party in the upper chamber. But all elected officials, state senators included, must answer first to constituents. Nobody checks with the minority leader before making a bad joke. ProgressNow and other groups don’t hold Gov. Bill Ritter’s feet to the fire whenever a Democrat in the state says something offensive, even though Ritter is the top Democrat in the state.

Furthermore, when Penry learned of Sen. Shawn Mitchell’s comment, he was quick to describe it as “obviously inappropriate” and said Mitchell “should make it right.”

The next time ProgressNow kickstarts the outrage bandwagon, I’ll be expecting an apology from Bill Ritter about Michael Garcia whipping “it” out.
