See Jane Run, Lounge, Reagan, Whatever

“We really are on the precipice right now, or a crossroads or whatever you want to call it.”

Wow, if it wasn’t for the KOSI soft rock in the background, we could use that for a sleep timer. We’re not sure the word “uninspiring” quite does this justice–was she trying for that effect?

A poll follows–right after your recovery from the slow-zoom Ronald Reagan experience (00:25-00:36, for those of you who are into that). And since a good percentage of you have never seen her before this moment, well, that’s Senate candidate Jane Norton everybody!

Wake up, back row.

Do you feel it?

  1. But if you listen to her buzzwards and bumpersticker philosophy, she’s just another neohooverite selling 1920’s economic policy all covered up in sticky used Reaganite kleenex.

I can’t wait to hear her expanded thoughts on how insurance corporations need more power, not less. Free-dum!!!!

  2. Slow moving type made in iMovie does NOT constitute a high-quality production. Hiring a decent photog but getting cheap on the rest of the production does not bode well for the rest of the campaign….

  3. The federal government is out of control. It started with the stimulus package

So if the out of control-ness started with the stim package, I guess she likes Bush’s policies?

    I thought she was moderate?

How about some creativity in problem-solving. Doesn’t she understand that her party is in the potty? It’s time to be really, really brave Republicans and start something new.

I know it’s scary and it’s something you’re not used to but the same old line doesn’t work anymore unless you wanna see some of those good ol’ racist tea party demonstrations at your git togathers.

        1. because we felt like he was the long lost father-actor that would finally satisfy and silence the screams of our self-centered, gimme-more! gimme-more! that’s MINE! child that America never wanted but got.

    1. Because she was out there on the ramparts fighting against the Bush tax cuts, keeping the wars off books and Medicare Part D, she speaks with such authority on these matters.

  4. As for Washington being “out of control”, someone please ask her which part of I-70 she doesn’t want repaved with stimulus dollars, because it seems like the entire stretch between Glenwood Springs and Denver is getting all nice and smooth so she and Penry can hurry up and drive here from Grand Junction to complain about it.

  5. I know this video is not directed at me, I can’t vote in the repub primary, and won’t vote for her in the general, but . . .

Who exactly is this going to convince?  What repub voter, who isn’t voting for her anyhow, is going to be swayed by this video?  It is awful.  Maybe its the format, but she couldn’t be more boring. Maybe the party that brought us Wayne Allard is trying to recreate the “magic.”

  6. it wouldn’t be so bad.  If you are going to do the time honored “personal responsibility” “Reagan” “Washington bad” speech aren’t you supposed to do it up tempo with a lot of quick cuts so nobody notices the lack of substance?

  7. First off, my dog could do a better job on the video transitions. And they made her face look fake in the interview part.

But the biggie is there is no passion there. Wayne Allard excepted, people generally do not vote for someone who doesn’t show they want to win. And show they once they win they will do something.

This was bizarre for an intro video. I get the strong impression that she is just going through the motions.

    1. Until three weeks ago, no one had heard of Jane Norton since she left office in January 2007. She wasn’t on anyone’s radar screen for this race. If she was actually thinking about it over the past several months or year, political people would have heard about it, and it would have been posted on this blog and other political blogs because those kind of inquiries in political circles never remain secret very long.

Instead, three weeks ago, the NRSC is suddenly reserving domain names for her and there is a buzz in political circles that she is interested in the race.

I don’t have any inside information, but I interpret this the way you do – “there is no passion there.” I think she was recruited and is a reluctant entry into the race. I don’t think she has the “fire-in-the-belly” for the race. If she doesn’t, she has no chance of winning and probably won’t make it to the assembly because running statewide is an enourmous all consuming effort.

      1. She’s not supposed to have fire in the belly about gov’t work. It’s part of the R elite m.o. now. Gov’t is worthy of disdain, but not passion. It’s worth serving but only if you can sort of make it look and sound like you’ve got better things to do.

Reagan had the ideological fire if nothing else. ANd he hated commies. And he was better looking.

You’re both right on- though if David’s dog can edit, I’d like to see it.

  8. This ranks right up there with

    Wil Armstrong looking weird

Will Shafroth on a football field

and Bob Beuaprez with a horse as amongst the worst ads ever seen in Colorado

  9. I’m so sick of Republicans that constantly bring up Reagan to hide the fact they have no ideas of their own to deal with today’s problems.

The guy was a capable president, but one who took office nearly three decades ago. Cold War-era policies have zero relevance today regardless of your opinion of how effective they were at the time.

Any college-age Democrats on here take note. If you run for office in the 2030’s please run on an actual platform instead of bringing up “I volunteered for Obama in college!” because it’s going to be just as tiring and pointless as the Reagan worship.

    1. Is it really appealing to independents and swing voters to keep invoking St. Ronnie?

I know that the more recent two GOP Presidents are kind of….ummmm….damaged, W being an unmitigated disaster and HW being, well a Bush…  But really?

Jane, I really don’t care how great you think Ronald Reagan was (I admit I have a different recollection).  What will you do for Colorado today?

Once again the GOP machine is going to put up a lackluster candidate who seems intent on reclaiming the GOP’s Sen. Dullard prize…

Then they will again blame George Soros when they lose.  Or some other external force.  To this day I think that McCain believes he would have won if only the economy hadn’t soured (even as he was singing its praises and ‘suspending’ his campaign).

      1. “You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them or serve them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.” (RSV Exodus 20:3-6).

    2. I present you the Grand Poobah Emeritus of the Gratuitous Reagan Reference Society, Colorado Chapter:

I got a fever.  A fever that can only be cured by more Holtzy !

      1. the prosecution will not only play this video as evidence to convict, but the punishment will include repetitious showings of it as well.

        And that makes me smile.

    1. and see if her expression changes.

I’ll admit, this is no more relevant than whether she barks like a dog during church services, and is probably demeaning to the vain and affluent yet wrinkled or frown-lined among us (sorry David!), but the 24-hour Pols cycle demands fresh information.

  10. ….that said… after knocking on 22,000 doors throughout Eagle, Summit, and Lake, I cannot recall a single Independent/Unaffiliated doorstep that was swayed by any references to our good President Reagan

He’s our GOP Father and I love him deeply…. that said, Reagan continues to serve as a figure that will remind us (GOPers) what OUR convictions are…. but invocations of Reagan don’t make you Reagan – something I learned on street corners, campaigning – voters, GOP included, want someone who can invoke their own substance, not just someone else’s

Otherwise, I thought the end of the video, with the criticism of Washington, was the most effective part – if that’s her message, it should catch traction….. however….. voters need to BELIEVE that she also BELIEVES in what she’s saying… otherwise, it’s gonna fall like a house of very weak cards

    1. That’s a ‘surprise’ MAH, considering you think Schaffer is a great leader of your party, and Tancredo your elder statesman.

It took you 22,000 doors to realize that a Republican president of yore was not motivating voters looking for a candidate in the state house?
