The discussion in the Angie Zapata diary, especially the part kicked off by Barron, had me thinking – what if sexual preference was actually a choice.
Granted, the science is overwhelming that it’s baked in by birth, but what if. What if it was merely a fundamental rarely changed decision similar to an individuals decision as to what religion they choose to believe & follow?
There would still be no logical argument to oppose equal rights, including marriage, based on an individuals “choice.” Especially when under this logic, everyone could choose to be gay and as such, this would be an abrogation of every-one’s civil rights.

People who hate would not. Lots of things we choose still make us targets. A car I once bought covered in Red Wing decals came with a warning that they should be immediately removed. That makes me think of Raiders fans and then straight to gangs. The car reminds me of the Jebus fish I bought my mom for her Jeep, a co-worker once asked, with a growl in her voice, if it was a “Jesus fish.”
Somethings just bother people. Some of those things come with violence. There’s really no rhyme or reason.
It is more accurate to call it orientation. Preference actually connotes that there is an element of choice in the matter. Like I have a preference for butter pecan ice cream over rocky road. Or I have a preference for watching comedy over drama. It’s a little more inherent in a person’s persona.
What if it was a preference/choice – it still makes no sense to restrict the civil rights of the people involved.
