    1. This nut case makes the Nevilles look rational and reasonable. Is it possible that Colorado nut cases – with the exceptions of Dr. Chaps and Dave Williams – are not quite a bad as those in some other states.

    2. Yesterday I had a hemp event at EarthDay in San Diego and a Westboro-Nazi-like group showed up and demonstrated. I’ve never witnessed such hateful crap.  They were calling the participants ‘dirty hippies, fags and lesbians who needed to turn to Christ’.  Everytime a man walked by with a dog he called him a fag and said next he’d be practicing bestiality and then turn into a pedophile.  He would  yell through his megaphone at women asking them if they were ’an angry lesbian on her period’.  Quoting scripture to support Drumpf’s wall.  All that sprinkled in with informing us to turn to Jesus Christ.  He also decried ’women leaders’ and said man had no obligation through scripture to obey them or their laws. Leaped from there to abortion and then back to something-something angry lesbians and then somehow knitted that into climate change.

Right Wing Jesus is alive and well – and increasingly unhinged.

      1. Ahh yes, the Christ that goes around calling people those things. Must be the same Christ that gives you a pass for adultery, theft, lying, coveting all sorts of crap, and most of all making yourself into a God, as long as you appoint far-right basterds to the Supreme Court.

      1. The Genius that is Atrios

What really happens is that the Chamber of Commerce basically says, "if you vote for free ponies for all, we will spend a lot of money telling voters that you love Muslims and have 'San Francisco values' (whatever that means)." So those politicians vote down the Free Ponies bill, and sage pundits observe that, well, of course they did, because voters in West Virginia Colorado hate free ponies and much prefer tax cuts for rich people. After all, West Virginia Colorado is a red purple state!

        1. You’re kinda’ special . . .

. . . like the guy driving into traffic on a one-way street, certain that everyone else is driving the wrong direction.

  1. Cookie, I'm getting worried about Moddy.  I think he celebrated the Taller Coffman's smashing victory at the assembly with so much cheap champagne that the C02 bubbles may have compromised his root system.

I know you water him regularly, but maybe we need to do an emergency repotting?

Let me know your decision, please.

      1. I just don't think that's enough, nameless.  He needs repotted.  The trauma of seeing the true face of the Republican Party has broken his spirit.

    1. Perhaps Moderatus had a long scheduled vacay set for the week after the Assembly? Went from the basement of Mom's to the attic over the garage of his Uncle?

Or maybe, just maybe, he's been working on his homework, going back to all the questions he's been asked and he hasn't answered since January of 2017. I once had a student convinced he could have a burst of work after Thanksgiving and turn in everything the week before finals, and he'd earn at least a C.  Watch out for that burst of answers any day now …

    2. He had pulled all the shades in mourning over Cindy. He wasn't getting enough sunlight. I set him out on the porch railing to see if that would perk him up.

  2. Please note that the waffle house killer's spree was halted when he stopped to reload and a customer jumped him and took away his AR15.  Cue the NRA shills to explain again why reasonable limits on guns, including limiting magazine capacity, don't save lives?  If this goon had a 100 round magazine he'd still be killing people.

Remember:  guns don't kill people.  Bullets kill people.  And limits on magazines save lives.

    1. AHh, but what if another patron had a 100 round drum? That assailant would've never even fired his first shot (because reasons) and everyone would be safe. Probably a huge amount of repairs on the Waffle House. Hope no one was in the parking lot either…

      1. The first two victims were in the lot. 15 rounds is enough to get you through the door with fatalities in and out.

Turns out all the victims are non-white. The perp, mentally unstable though he might be, told the Secret Service in 2017 that he was a sovereign citizen. I'm guessing he has many interesting websites bookmarked, and possibly some interesting friends and/or relations. Like his dad, who gave him his weapons back after the perp lost his gun license…

    2. yes

That brings back some not-so-fond memories of the Aurora theater shooting aftermath, when some dumbfuck GOP legislator was arguing (publicly and with a straight face, apparently) that 100-round magazines are safer because they cause more jamming. Can't remember said dumbfuck's name offhand, but something that magnificently stupid almost certainly had to come from a white man.

      1. The 100 round ones do jam a lot.  I think the most dangerous ones are probably the 30 rounders.  But a limit of five rounds per magazine wouldn't inconvenience any hunter.  That's what my 03 Springfield holds and the U.S. Army managed to defeat Germany with it in WW1.  It is probably the military rifle most favored as a hunting rifle.

          1. This fits in with Doug Robinson's uncle's opponent:

“Sometimes access to health care can be damaging and dangerous. And it’s a perspective for the [Legislative] body to consider is that, I’ve heard from National Institutes of Health and otherwise that we’re killing up to a million, a million and a half people every year in our hospitals. And it’s access to hospitals that’s killing those people.”

  3. This morning the Colorado Supreme Court drove the final nail into the coffin of an especially nutty TABOR Foundation lawsuit. In 2013 the legislature passed and the governor signed a law removing some sale tax exemptions and adding new exemptions, the end result of which was an estimated net 0.6% increase in sales tax revenue for RTD  and SCFD. The TABOR Foundation sued, claiming the law was unconstitutional due to the absence of voter approval.

The Supreme Court unanimously held that "[l]egislation that causes only an incidental and de minimis tax revenue increase is not a 'new tax' or a 'tax policy change'" for TABOR purposes.

    TABOR Found. v. RTD, 2018CO29, ___ P.3d ___.

      1. I don't know. Mr. TABOR has been too busy lately printing fliers on pink page trashing Nutlid's girlfriend. He needs to get back to his calling in life.

      2. The courts, same as who defines "incidental." As always, the courts are stuck trying to save people from the consequences of their own dumbassery and/or that of their elected representatives.

10-4 on the stupid amendments removal process. I'd  dearly love to shitcan disgraceful nonsense like English being the "official" state language, marriage limited to one man/one woman unions (unenforceable thanks to the courts, but still in the state constitution), no "special rights" for homos (ditto), etc.

I doubt there's much support for doing away with TABOR, though. A disconcertingly large percentage of people I know love it, even though they don't really know much about what it is or what it does.

  4. Hey, some refreshing news for y'all.

The nomination of Admiral Ronny Jackson for' VA Secretary has not been derailed by a sex scandal.

    It's drugs.

I knew Trump had to be holding something over Jackson to make a reputable doctor lie profusely at the podium. (239 pounds! So healthy! He'll live forever!)

So Doc Jackson has been accused of overprescribing, probably opiates, and of drinking heavily himself, as well as other unspecified "misconduct". Trump was going to overlook all of that , and promote him to VA Secretary, if only Doc Jackson proved himself to be "loyal"

Yet another lesson: Trump stinks. The more loyal you are,the more it will rub off on you.
