According to the “Draft Tom Tancredo for Governor” Facebook fan page (reportedly now closed due to intense trolling), the former congressman from Littleton has filed “exploratory committee” paperwork for the 2010 gubernatorial race with the Secretary of State. We’ll admit to being a little vague about the application of “exploratory committees,” but when the subject last came up we thought it was established that they were a federal race artifice–not a status that means anything under Colorado law. Can we get that confirmed? Is it just as correct to say that Tancredo has filed as a candidate for Governor, or is the “exploratory” distinction important?
Either way, Democrats gleefully await Tancredo’s next move.

He’ll eventually endorse someone . . . it’s just a question of who.
I see a handy dandy checklist on the SOS website, nothing about an “exploratory committee.” Make me think that this delightful news is just a tease. 🙁
http://www.elections.colorado….
We’ve (cough) er, they’ve got a 527 going.
Tom. Stop. Seriously.
He’s a shill for McInnis. He knows that if you run you’ll easily win the primary and the general. Go for it dude – Colorado needs you!!!
coloradopols should be elated, this will deliver so many more spin opportunities for promotion.
He’ll never really launch a campaign, he likes to play pretend.
– a serous discussion about what a non-issue it is for states to talk about illegal immigrants since there ain’t much we can do about it
– it would open the door to legitimate discussion about the role of gov’t funding education since TT has advocated the elimination of public funding
– it should finally end CO Rs’ obsession with him and other far right unelectable de facto leaders.
It also would keep out any other R nut jobs- not counting any who might already be in, that is.
and I did. You can thank me and some of my friends for getting that group closed.
If he lets Tancredo pull him to the right out of fear of losing the primary, he’ll regret it in the general.
by running as a sane moderate, then that speaks volumes about the state of the Republican Party today.
and be very competitive in the general.
He won’t. You can call people Gringo’s on your website, walk off T.V. sets and be as outspoken as you are on ONE subject and expect to win a nomination. It won’t happen. If the GOP of Colorado wants to get back into office they need someone who isn’t so one sided. It’s their only chance.
We can place bets as to which one blows up first 🙂
Although if he’s smart, he’ll make an exception for Tanc!
Our whole country needs him now! Thank god this great man is finally gracing our entire state with his leadership. CD6 was so lucky.
Run, Tom, run!
it’s something that TT needs to hear.
I’m joined the Draft Tancredo page yesterday
Because they can fight out the wing-nut vs moderate battle and decide what they want to do. They have to do this if they don’t want to fade into a permanent minority.
At least Penry probably wouldn’t have pulled Scooter off the right side of the Republican flat earth.
This is gonna be a good campaign. The future of the GOP will be decided: semi-RINO McInnis or Teabagger Tancredo?
That Tommy sticks with it? When do I learn where I can donate?
Tancredo will say he’s looked into it and it’s just not the right time for a bid to be Governor…the guy just wants press and he’s doing a darn good job!
to KEEP HOPE ALIVE!
tempted to change registration and go to an R caucus and vote in the primary for Tom?
Might just be the best thing we could do for Ritter….
I get hit by a train before I changed back and die a Republican. 🙂
sure, but I don’t think I could be a Republican for 30 days. The drinking I’d have to do to live with myself would kill me.
my pastor would likely tire of seeing me every day and all hours of the night seeking forgiveness….
That’s how we ended up with McCain last year.
L.B., I know you’re brighter than to believe that. The Dem nomination fight went all the way to Memorial Day. Regardless of whether a Dem supported Obama or H.R.C., nobody was giving up the chance to vote in primary or caucus for one of our candidates in order to help prop up McCain.
McCain may have picked up some independents in open primary states. But then again, isn’t that the idea? Get them to vote for a Repub in the spring and they may stick with him in the fall?
In this case they did not because : (1) he picked an unqualified wingnut for V.P., and (2) he pronounced the “fundamentals of our ecomony are still sound” just as the Bush-Cheney Depression was kicking in to high gear.
The first Caucus and primary were open. He was dead in the water in July and was mysteriously on top for good after those two.
But McCain got whupped here.
the Club for (Democratic) Growth–maybe they’ll endorse TT?
We need Sarah Sarah to come and stump, but I hear she charges top dollar. Still one can dream.
…why would anybody in their right mind pay a butt-load to go see the Wicked Witch of Alaska?
I did not mention anything about people in their right minds…
You mean those overtaxed teabaggers have enough money to pay for some stupid fundraiser?
Tancredo clearly loves the limelight. What happens if he doesn’t run? He’s already yesterday’s story. Immigration is not an issue anymore and so he’s lost his following.
Every day we have new people pop up as the latest thing in the media. That means old news gets pushed off. If he doesn’t get elected to something major, then he’s history. In two years no one will have any interest in him.
And the only office available is Governor. I think he may very well run.
try to get an interview with Tommy in any case. Seriously.
…I just sent an email asking.
I was worried that the race would get boring. Now, we have no reason to fear that outcome.
