Sorry Not Sorry: Trump Praises Trump for Helsinki

UPDATE: Speaking at a Cabinet meeting today, President Trump says “there has never been a President as tough on Russia as I have been.”

Yes, this really happened.

———
On Monday, President Trump orchestrated one of the biggest international relations disasters in the history of the United States. On Tuesday, Trump returned to the White House and offered a half-assed explanation for his relentless public defense of Russian President Vladimir Putin that was based on the premise that he mistakenly forgot to use an apostrophe in one of his comments.

Today Trump completed the circle by “walking back his walk-back,” as Politico aptly explained:

President Donald Trump on Wednesday returned to a defiant posture, insisting his deeply controversial meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin will prove to be a great success “in the long run” and complaining that his critics are suffering from “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

One day after issuing a rare mea culpa — in which Trump claimed he meant to say there’s no reason to believe it “wouldn’t” have been Russia that meddled in the U.S. election — Trump appeared to be walking back his walk-back…

…Those who have been critical of him, the president said, are “haters” upset that he has a warm relationship with Putin, a former KGB agent who the U.S. intelligence community has concluded with “high confidence” ordered the 2016 cyberattacks targeting the U.S. election process…

…Trump’s tweets capped a whirlwind few days in which Trump found himself perplexed by the severe blowback to his remarks in Helsinki.

If none of this makes sense to you, according to Trump, it may be that you just aren’t smart enough to understand:

Also, smart people spell “Colusion” with only one ‘L.’

  1. To my favorite trolls, if you support Benedict Donald, you support treason.  You do not care about America and are aiding in it's destruction.

    1. The only troll to show his face around here since Helsinki has been Negev who, of course, did the moral equivalency argument and pointed out that we helped Yeltsin in 1996 so Putin helping Trump in 2016 is just fine.

I wonder if Negev has shown Butina his gun…..

  3. Trump gonna Trump.

Trump denies Russia is targeting U.S. at Cabinet meeting

After spending a majority of the meeting highlighting the country's economic successes, Mr. Trump told reporters that there's "never been a president as tough on Russia as I have been."

"President Putin knows that better than anybody, he understands it and he's not happy about it," he added.

When pressed on if Russia was still targeting the U.S. and its election system, Mr. Trump replied, "Thank you very much, no."

    1. Dang, he's good.

Go to North Korea, and end the nuclear threat.

Go to Helsinki, Russians are no longer going to interfere (if they ever did) with US elections.

I wonder if he could go to a National Park and end forest fires. Or stop by a meeting of the Fed and make certain we won't have another recession.

  4. As an interlude, John Bolton's video message for Butina's right to bear arms group in Russia.  Not clear if he was paid– in cash or in половой акт.

  5. Trump's technically right: there's never been a President as tough on Russia as he's been. Even when we had good relations with the Russian Empire, no President ever acted directly in support of Russia against its own citizens or the world community.
