Well Played, Polis Campaign

  • by: Colorado Pols

Republican gubernatorial candidate Walker Stapleton released a new television ad today that is almost entirely about Democrat Jared Polis. In response, the Polis campaign Tweeted out a cut of the ad that removed all of the parts about Polis…which left about 3 seconds of video.

As the kids say, Stapleton just got pwned.

Here’s Stapleton’s original ad:

      1. He is positively able to use his super chameleon powers to completely blend in with the office furniture and disappear.  Pretty neat trick when you don't want to be singled out to be blamed for doing a shitty job.

  1. Well, if you have nothing to say about your own accomplishments, I guess trying for assertions about your opponent is about all you have left.

I keep coming back to the promise on Stapleton's campaign site: "I will bring the same persistence in fighting for economic reform to the Governor’s office as I have shown as Treasurer."

I guess that may be a true Michael Kinsley gaffe … You may remember, Kinsley famously wrote, “A gaffe is when a politician tells the truth—some obvious truth he isn't supposed to say.”

  2. Picture a coterie of Stapleton campaign advisors conferring for a media buy:

"Well, thank goodness the Klanpappy thing has died down for now."

" And nobody except a few political geeks  are talking about how he never stopped collecting money from his real estate investment firm."

"And not showing up for work half the time? Truth is relative. Most people work from home 2-3 days a week. Who’s to say Walker Stapleton wasn’t dreaming great things for Colorado when he was sleeping in on rainy days?." (general laughter)

"But we can't just run ads against Polis. Our guy Walker can't just be the anti-Polis candidate……what is he for? What has he really done for Coloradans?"

……..deafening silence for the rest of the session.

    1. I think the underlying folly of Udall's 2014 campaign is that he spent so much of it attacking Gardner.  Stapleton is making that same mistake with Polis.
