Good.
Financing the Olympics in the USA is pitched as "public private."
And it's rtue ina sense – "public investment, private returns" is just as true. "Privatized gains, solicaized losses," also true.
Of course Amazon HQ went to DC (and NYC).
Of course, Apple is expanding the domestic campus to Austin.
If hosting the Olympics (Winter or Summer) was such a great deal Corporate America and the 7% would be fighting to invest.
Sweet! It's a massive outlay of public funds and other public resources, with shockingly little return, all for the "privilege" of hosting a competition to determine who's the best at hiding PED use.
Fuck the Olympics.
I agree that the Olympics are a giant boondoggle. Though they are no worse than the Broncos or Rockies. It would be nice to have some sort of rule or law that would prevent all such public outlays for private enterprise.

Free stuff for rich organizations. Or organizations that the have the potential of being rich without government subsidies.
Well, Denny, old geezers like me pay a lot of taxes too and don't really get that much back directly. The few bucks I pay for Socialized football, in contrast, gives me a lot of fun. We also subsidize zoos, symphony, skiing, etc. If I have to pay for other families day care, I'll do it, but if they want to take away my broncos screw 'em.
I agree, however, that the Olympics are a luge too far.
Do we really want a professional bobsled track?
What a novel concept: They might actually use all those olympic facilities more than once. Whooda thunk it?
